2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Whitmore was one of the guys that I wanted to tank for and he ended up dropping right to us and we missed the boat.
Tony Jones said he wasnt even an option for us so we didnt miss any boats. Not an option is a strong statement.

For all we know he might have told Ainge to **** off and not draft him.

There is a bit more to the decision than just the on court stuff with him. It may be exaggerated but the reasons to pick him were all stuff that we wouldn't be privy to unless the FO disclosed it.

Yes, agreed, it likely doesn't keep up, but is pretty impressive so far.
Its positive for sure. I liked him as a prospect a lot. The interviews and personality stuff I think was enough that many teams took him off their boards. It likely was an over-reaction but we just don't know enough and guys with those types of issues stuff comes out later. Its all muddied in my mind but I remember some rumors of a prospect that said they didn't want to come here... there was the prospect that tanked the workouts (assumed it was GG)... I just think we flat out said we couldn't do it.

Time will tell... with some of these guys they mature and it looks bad... sometimes they figure it out on their 3rd or 4th team. I do think sometimes the medical red flags and personality stuff gets a little too reactionary. Rockets may have had a steal drop in their laps.

It's hard to say about the off court stuff, but I think there are on court concerns as well. Mostly they are BBIQ related questions, for me, where he doesn't seem to have a good feel for what's going on all the time and often makes bad reads on both offense and defense. I'm guessing this is why he hasn't played for the Rockets more since his production has been great so far.

It's just a little strange to me since the dude's a bucket, it's super clear, and usually guys like that get on the court despite BBIQ questions.

Oh for sure. He's a black hole. Even on the stuff you provided its clear he likes to cook based on time with the ball. Those concerns may push a guy to the back half of the lotto with the talent he has... but to get all the way to 20 there were some interview issues.

Houston is good and has some depth so the playing time makes sense to me. If he was on a rat team he'd be playing a lot.

Houston also has Green, Eason, Smith, Amen that are all young players figuring things out so adding Whitmore while trying to win is tough.

Cam has been impressive, but a big factor in points per touch is that you shoot it every time. Fitting for the player he is haha.
