Lauri would have to be the biggest godfather offer for us to considerThis trade seems to surprise many. But Danny’s task is to build a championship team (not a play-in team). He obviously thinks Simone was never going to be a required piece in his championship/contender team whenever its ready, so he trades him to get assets rather than getting nothing. KO and THT are next, and hopefully Clarkson, too, although he’s not expiring. … I’m still a bit wary about OKC’s mountain of FRPs and Lauri. I guess I shouldn’t be. No one else here seems to be.
Just look at the deal this way.I'm a bit surprised by the consensus reaction, I like this trade for us. Not sure I get it from Detroit's perspective.
Simone is a good players and could be a "piece" on a contending team, but we are nowhere near that. DA clearly remains laser-focused on acquiring assets with future value to go out and get the franchise cornerstones when the time is right. Obviously we're trying to win come tipoff time, but it's pretty damn obvious the FO has not been trying to win from a roster construction standpoint the last 24 months. If we move JC, Sexton (we shouldn't), KO, etc. nobody should be expecting "win now" pieces in return.
The 2nd this year from Detroit is valuable. It's essentially a late first, has more near-term value than a heavily protected FRP that won't convey for 2+ years (if ever), and puts us in a great spot to trade into the late first if there's someone we are targeting in that range come draft night.
And I suppose I'm higher on Knox than most - the raw material is still there, he's just been on bad, bad teams. Hardy can clearly get the most out of players with good size, length, and shooting ability. It wasn't long ago that Lauri was also massively wasted.
Not that there’s necessarily a huge overlap in these groups, but I have seen at least a couple people say they like this trade who have scoffed at complaints of not getting second rounders in deals (Bojan, Beverley, having to be the one throwing in two seconds in the Conley deal, etc.) who would mention how dumb of a complaint that is, how seconds are worthless and how they can just be bought on draft night, but yet happy to see us make a trade specifically for a second. I think it has more to do with a general disposition that the experts make expert decisions, and if devaluing second rounders is one, it’s genius, and if it’s trading for a second rounder, it’s also genius. It’s like when Leo tries to kill Bob but Bob sees it as being cured.I remember being unhappy about when the jazz traded FOUR rotational players and 2 picks for what might be 1 pick. We were in the playoff hunt at the time.
And I wasn't near as unhappy as some in this thread are lol. I remember Cy thinking that trade was a good one.
Oh how the tables have turned.

A second rounder from a playoff team and a second rounder from the Wizards aren't remotely the same thing. Detroit (Bojan trade) is a playoff team? And seconds a few years out?A second rounder from a playoff team and a second rounder from the Wizards aren't remotely the same thing.
Was drafted in 2018 and still only 24. That's kind of crazy. He had a very promising rookie year and has been kind trash/average since. Guys that show flashes like that, but never put it together can be bad religion. I'm not expecting anything, but worth it to see if he can turn things around to be serviceable.I have no idea how the jazz view Knox but I have wanted to give him a look for a while now. I liked his potential coming out of Kentucky and every once in a while he has a game where you say this guy has a chance to be solid.
