2024 NBA Draft Mega Thread

Hey my draft friends. Sorry life has been crazy so I haven't been able to keep up with this draft lately. I have a few questions I tried to Google some of these but wonder if you have heard anything or opinions. Please and thank you

- Dink Pate - any news on his waiver? I read some consider him a facilitator and if that is true a 6'9" PG wpuld be huge. (Pun intended) I have read a lot of people are considering him a top 10 pick this year? Shooting is awful but his FT rate is decent.

- is there really a BPA draft this year. It really seems that this year it very muddled and it seems like need will play a big part.

- Dalton Knecht is one of my favorite players but is his age a concern?

- out of all the top 20 players is there anyone that just seems to the "IT". The Jazz need a top dog.

- If the jazz keep all 3 picks I would guess at least 1 would be a draft and stash. Who are the targets?

- If the jazz move up who would be the target? (Teens and 20s or lotto)

- Dink Pate - any news on his waiver? I read some consider him a facilitator and if that is true a 6'9" PG wpuld be huge. (Pun intended) I have read a lot of people are considering him a top 10 pick this year? Shooting is awful but his FT rate is decent. He wasn't invited to the Combine. I'm guessing he's not eligible for this year's draft.

- is there really a BPA draft this year. It really seems that this year it very muddled and it seems like need will play a big part. A few players stand out as prospects, which are the ones you're seeing in the various mock draft sites--e.g., Sarr, Topic, Risacher, Dillingham, Williams, Buzelis, Holland, Knecht, Sheppard, Castle

- Dalton Knecht is one of my favorite players but is his age a concern? Yes, his age is a concern. It suggests he has less room for improvement. However, he has a mature game that fits a role as an offensive 2/3, movement shooter and floor spacer.

- out of all the top 20 players is there anyone that just seems to the "IT". The Jazz need a top dog. For me, it's Topic, assuming the Jazz want a ball-dominant lead guard to run the offense. Sarr looks like he could be a bigger version of Derrick Favors, which is a solid prospect. There are a variety of 2-way wings to choose from, among whom my favorite is Cody Williams. Dillingham is worth a serious look, but feels a bit redundant with Sexton to me.

- If the jazz keep all 3 picks I would guess at least 1 would be a draft and stash. Who are the targets? I'm not sure they'd be looking to stash a player. They can develop players in the Gleague. A guy like Chomche would be a project who is a year or two from seeing meaningful minutes. AJ Johnson looks like a sleeper and could conceivably spend another year in the NBL, but I don't see the point of keeping him there.

- If the jazz move up who would be the target? (Teens and 20s or lotto) The Jazz's situation at the 5 is holding them back overall. I could see them targeting a big, whether that's Ware, Edey or Filipowski if he slips. There's value to be had if the Jazz want to keep both their later picks.

So Holland has dropped significantly because he sucked as a shot creator and shooter. As a Holland guy, I think that’s fair…he was not great. OTOH, Matas has maintained his position because of his shot creating potential. Is it odd that Matas was just as bad as Holland despite having a lower usage? Matas is also 9 months older.

I think the film looks better for Matas….but I still don’t know why it’s his main selling point and the main criticism for Holland.

Prolly racism? Shrug. Holland or Maya’s could go anywhere from like 2-10 and I wouldn’t be surprised.

It's really strange to me. Maybe the explanation will reveal itself through the film, but I don't understand why Matas gets a much more generous review of his play. I'm not even saying Matas doesn't deserve it, there are many reasons to be forgiving of a HS player who played on Ignite, but it seems like Holland is getting so much more criticism for his play. I had wondered if Holland maybe didn't have the intangibles and wanted to be a chucker, but even those who are critical of him will say his intangibles/motor are one of his biggest strengths.

His passing is pretty good to it seems which is what kinda made me raise my eyebrow as to why everyone is so down on him compared to where he started out the year.

Some draft followers have Holland pretty high on their boards. It's not clear if he really dropped. However, Holland may ultimately be a complementary player--an off-ball slasher and defensive playmaker, rather than an initiator or go-to scorer. That might dampen his draft stock for some people.
