2024 NBA Draft Mega Thread

So we really think Danny is enamored with someone (bj armstrong video)? Any conspiracy theories? I’m gonna say reed sheppard or kyle filipowski
Ainge clearly wanted into the top 10 of this draft at the deadline, and I’ve been convinced since then that there was at least one guy who he loved. I would agree with the above posters who think it’s Castle

He is on an entirely different level than those guys defensively. I don't understand why you want to ignore the Dort comparison which is the correct one.

You just decided for me that I ignored Dort lol. That’s not how it works. Not my problem you misunderstood the statistical comparison.

I think Castle will be a good defender, I’m not sure he will be top 1 perimeter defender (I don’t think Dort is top 1 but that’s why it seems you’re making the comparison). Like I think McCain is a great shooter, I’m not going to say his shooting is like Steph Curry. It’s not me ignoring anything I just think Castle is more likely to be very good defender than top 1-3 perimeter defender.

It’s not quite the same, but this is reminiscent of talking about TH’s shot blocking like he was Jaren Jackson. He’s good at something….but are we sure he’s going to be the very best at it in the league?

Based on his past drafting patterns, Ainge has clear and consistent drafting preferences. Most importantly, he drafts players with a good size for the position. If you are undersized you have to have at least the reach and strength (see Terry Rozier). He is not a big fan of pure shooters (like Dick ) and upperclassmen. Based on that, Sheppard, Dillingham and, probably, Knecht, do not exactly align with his previous drafting. Castle, Buzelis and Salaun are players who likely look good to Danny .

You have constantly said that you don't think Castle will be a stocks guy and question his value defensively when arguably the best defensive perimeter player in the league is Dort and he is not a stocks guy at all. Since you don't believe Dort is an elite perimeter who do you think is better than him?

Again, not my fault that you misunderstand the comparison. I said that Castle's stocks are low as a prospect, Dort's stocks were higher as a prospect. Stocks aren't only an indicator of stocks at the NBA level. Pretty much every single good perimeter defender had higher stocks than Castle as prospects.

What are we expecting from him on offense? Like an Igoudala?
Depends just how much he improves his shot and whether he will be able to take it off the dribble. I guess absolutely best case scenario some version of Iguodala/Butler/Brown hybrid.

Since his stocks are low in college does it not make sense to compare him to a guy that has low stocks in the nba aka Dort? You are dinging him for not being a stocks guy and acting like that limits his effectiveness when it doesn't. Arguably the best defensive wing in the nba isn't a stocks guy and there is no reason to think Castle can't do exactly what he does. Castle is a Bowen and Dort type of defender that just locks guys down and makes the game hard. I could careless if he isn't a stocks guy. He is a beast defensively and there is no doubt in my mind that it will translate to the nba at a very high level.

The comparison is stocks as a prospect compared to stocks as a prospect, like I said, stocks is an indicator of more than getting stocks in the NBA. I am dinging him because one of the most important indicators of defense (really players as a whole) is very low. If you can't wrap your head around the concept of an indicator, I can't help you. Dort is evidence for me, he was a better stocks guy coming into the draft. If you want to counter my logic, find a guy who whose stocks were lower than Castle's and that would serve as a counterpoint.

I do think Castle can be an exception to the rule, but given that there have only been two guys in the last 10+ years to receive an all defense stocks with lowers stocks, I hesitate to say he will be the very best in the NBA.
