Should the Jazz "Unleash" Collin Sexton?

I agree we have sucked by design the last two seasons. Hands down we're a playoff/play-in team without trading 2+ rotation guys at each deadline and building our rotations around winning now, vs. our second half tank-a-thons.

I expect that tide turns this offseason/next season. No harm in seeing how a Lauri/Sexton/Keyonte offensive trio competes over the course of a competitive season + (hopeful) playoff run. 2 more years of team control on a very reasonable contract for Sexton, so if it's a bust, we can always trade him for real value.

My unanswered questions are:

1) Is a Sexton/Keyonte backcourt just too small and porous defensively?
2) Do we really have "that guy" within that trio to build a championship contender around? Superstardom has proven to be an essential ingredient for NBA championships in recent decades.
I dont think Keyonte/Sexton is a good duo and I would want to upgrade Keyonte's starting position and have Keyonte develop as a 6th man (not to ultimately be a 6th man, just not the pressure of starting) and have him as an insurance policy next to Sexton. But at the same time I wouldnt balk at having them both start this year just to see. Maybe the improvement from Hendricks/Collins/Walker/Someone we trade those guys for improves our defense to the point where a bad backcourt can survive defensively as league average.

Maybe Keyonte ultimately becomes a trade chip to get you that star next to Sexton/Lauri. Maybe you get lucky and Sensabaugh/Hendricks/Keyonte/some guy you draft in the future turns into that player.

Sexton/Key is going to suck *** on defense... but we already suck *** on defense... so I think its fine to roll with it for now. Key has to prove some things and Collin needs to confirm some things. Dunn mixing in with those two as a starter or off the bench is pretty ideal for now.... if we are actually trying to make the play in this season. Sexton and Lauri provide a nice offensive baseline to generate some wins.

LOL says the guy who is like... we should just do what we have done the last couple years and sell off vets late in the season. My dude... that is tanking... just not doing it well enough. But way to change the subject... glad you are finally coming around on Collin. It just takes the slower guys a little longer to get there.
No, that is not tanking. It's optionality. This year might be the year the team is good enough to sell vets while still being a playoff team.

Look, go to the other thread and fantasize about Ben Simmons. This is a thread for people who want to win.

Yes the team that went 5-21 post ASB after selling off vets can sell off more vets and still make the playoffs.

I was one of the first to question why he wasn’t starting.

Even when he was going good and playing like an allstar it seemed like JC, coming off the bench had priority over Sexton. And seemed like he struggled to even get 28 minutes a game where JC was getting 30+ a game off the bench. And it was an off year for JC to boot

The Jazz were playing rookies, borderline out of the league players, and complete scrubs significant minutes.

There's level and degrees of selling off and who you choose to give minutes to. I'm also advocating to add a major win now piece in Cam Johnson or Jonathan Isaac. The Jazz will also have those rookies be a year older/better/wise and wont be playing guys such as Luka Samanic and Talen Horton Tucker

Wow

I've wanted Isaac for a few years. How much of Isaac can Hendricks be?

Is there anyone else in the league more suited to make a Jalen Brunson type of leap with the keys in his hands more than Collin Sexton?

I could buy into this but I just don't get how Hardy has handled him. I get he needs tough coaching and stuff but at some point its dumb to keep holding him back... especially with Key and JC out there doing the same dumb stuff without as much of the good. Maybe Hardy can fully be converted to the gospel of Collin... I mean if Cy can then Will should be able to be convinced.
