What's new

What should we ask from Spurs for Lauri?

because the jazz (and every team in the league) need guards who can score.
If we’re trading Lauri, do we really need a guy that can score?? Isn’t that something the Jazz staff can develop? Isn’t that what we’re talking about and why you draft imperfect players, to develop them? Seems like a good fit for this year’s team!!

Windy said rival execs are getting the sense Danny is listening. Said Spurs and Warriors are two teams who could make a big offer.

So essentially, the gradfather offer could come. Even last DL the reports were that we could trade him for such an offer.
I feel we are already flooded with picks and young players. But only have one solid building block. Unless Lauri wants this, I'm not a fan.

But then I'll see the return and be excited, so whatever I guess.

NOTHING. We should ask for nothing and accept nothing from the Spurs for Laurie. Why would we create a champion level competitor for the next decade in an org that we know wont fumble the ball? We need to get to the championship level ourselves but can’t creat the biggest barrier to our own championship in our own division.

The way to look at this positively (which I always try to do), is if Spurs are the trade partner there is a fair chance Jazz could get 2 top 10 picks in 2025 (one from that trade and their own).

And based on preliminary hype... the 2025 draft has like 6-7 player who are all better than anyone drafted in 2024 including multiple possible superstar level guys.

If we trade Lauri, it won't be because of the picks(wont mind if we get a few more, but we also kinda have too many of those already), but because one team offer us an exciting young player who has the potential to become the "new Lauri". Let's say, Jalen Williams or Cam Whitmore

I like Keldon Johnson and so I would want him. I would also not be opposed to loading up on 2025 draft picks. Obviously we're not going to be able to pick them all, but we can package them to move up or move them for future picks or players. I think those picks end up extremely valuable.

IMO Lauri doesn’t fit the time line. By the time all these prospects we are adding are ready to win Lauri might be finished being ready to win. A Lauri trade would lengthen our window for building this team into a championship contender.
I get that, but you kind of need to actually be building around something and have some kind of established player, veteran, culture, etc. to grow as a team.

Short of getting a Wemby like prospect we're just gonna have a bunch of kids fighting at the table with no adult in the room. Lauri would really bring a sense of hierarchy and respect to a young team.

I don't want Castle. He can not shoot and he limits the Spurs for the next two to three years because his other qualities make it hard to give up on him quickly.
