I doubt anyone looks very good on our team next year if we trade away Lauri. I don't think that team would be capable of recouping/increasing anyone's value.
This is something most dont seem to fully appreciate. In really bad teams players on the roster bleed value. Even if they get minutes and put up nice individual stats, people will say those are empty stats.

You gotta pop off the tape to build value there and if you do you are likely gonna be a keeper anyways.

Performing bad has collateral costs.

If you choose to interpret "versatile + good" as Jaden McDaniels, I can't control that. But I will stand by that he is both versatile and good. He has a 95th percentile defensive versatility score and good metrics as mentioned before. Unless you have another argument, we can just agree to disagree because there is no counter argument to "because I said so". You think one thing, ok. I think another thing and so do the numbers. Tweener never made sense to me and I explained why.

As far as the Collins parallel, all I can say about that is that they were both good players at a young age. They are similar in the sense that they both command a lot as young players, but I'm not sure how that means they will have the same outcomes. I don't consider them to be similar players, but even if they were, I don't necessarily see that as a warning shot. There is a long list of players that got big money because they showed potential. Some of them are similar and got different results. Some of them were very different and yet they got the same results. You are holding onto this John Collins comparisons because John Collins happened to never developed. Of course that could be the case for Kuminga as it could be with any player, but he as an individual can have his own individual outcomes. If you're saying that not every player develops and that not every player who is paid on potential works, I would say "duh".

Kuminga is going to get money and he would be worth a lot in any trade package, I don't know if you've conceded that but you were certain that was not the case the last time we talked about this. When I mentioned you have a blindspot, it's because you acted like you could not fathom how someone could think he has the potential to improve and be valued. Whether he's actually worth it or not, I think it could go either way. He's not a Quickley situation where I'm 100% in or a Barrett situation where I'm 100% out. But I'm not deterred by being a tweener or the fact that John Collins happened to never develop.
I've hit my limit here... sorry... if yall want to believe in JK then go on ahead. If the Warriors gave us a choice of Podz+Moody with the picks or JK with the picks I know what I would choose.

I think we’ll be pretty bad with or without Lauri. We don’t have the same veteran depth as we did before. Lauri has never played more than 68 games.

The difference in playing someone like Cody/Brice is massive compared to a Simone/KO.

All the bad teams have bad or young players though. We Lauri/Walker/Sexton are better than the top end of all/most of the bottom 7/8 teams.

I don't think we're in the poll tank positions for the reasons you mentioned, but our depth is really shallow and depth crucial to winning games over an 82 game season. I guess what I'm saying is this team as it stands is significantly worse than it was in years past. If we traded Sexton/Kessler ect and kept Lauri I think we'd be pretty close to being one of the worst in the league. This roster kind of reminds me of the tanking TWolves teams after Jimmy. Might need to trade Sexton to get there though.

I get it. I have just seen too many people watching summer league and saying we will be awful. Every bad team will have some rotation guys that are rough. I'd say we are like a 25-28 win team as we sit but are one "surprise" away from being more than that. A few games can quickly push you from 5th or whatevs to 8th. So I'd rather leave no doubt and end up in contention for 3rd or 4th worst.

With relatively normal health I think there is no way we are worse than Nets, Wiz, Pistons (even with their vet additions)... Bulls/Hornets/Blazers are teams I could see surprising or being trash. Raps I think will be play in quality but they are an injury away from turning to tank. And then there are the teams that are an injury away from being awful. I'd strongly consider making one "lose-now" trade in an effort to make sure we suck. We like to play with fire though so...

I think the Nets and Wiz are clearly worse than us. Pistons I think will be much better with like 9-10+ real NBA rotation players and a coach not trying to lose on purpose. I'd have us in a tier with the Blazers right after the Nets/Wiz and put the Pistons above. Lot's of things could change, but the team with the least depth/most top heavy has the most potential for things to go bad IMO.

FWIW, did a quick DARKO projection with fairly optimistic minutes projections, it had us at 26.7 wins with the current roster. Keyonte not being terrible would change that quickly, however.

I did a SWAG projection and would guess 27.5 wins as the over under. So seems right. I think that leaves you in a spot where if a young player is good or a vets play is improved you end up in the 30 win range. Pistons could win twice as many games as they did last year… and still be a 28 win team.

I think the Blazers find a home for Grant in the offseason and lean in to Scoot which will produce lots of losing.

Bulls… if Lavine is healthy I think threaten the play in. Hawks will be a play in team. Hornets… if Ball plays 70 games are likely play in worthy. I just don’t want to rely on other teams being healthy.

I guess my position is that if we end up bottom 5 its because:

1- We made a lose now trade
2- We had a key injury to Lauri, Walker, Sexton
3- The East beat up on each other and all are close enough to the play in that they don't want to pull the plug.

As-is I would bet we end up 6-8. Hardy will play guys like Bazley instead of Williams if they are truly trashy. While Darius isn't good he isn't bad bad. I think Clarkson is better this year than last.

Hardy seems to be excellent and making chicken salad out of chicken ****... If he buys into the tank a little more I can buy the "we are bad enough now". But that's really not a coachs job.
