Olympics Thread

Why did we need 3v3 basketball in the Olympics. Better question is do we really need to see Jimmer choking at the top level again?! We might as well bring The Professor over and at least be entertained.
It has brought in for younger demographics be interested to watch games... Like BMX, skateboarding, surfing, beach volley (past few Olympic games)

There's been again lot of discussion about trans athletes in female sports after the Italian boxer forfeited against the Algerian boxer today.

What bothers me about that discussion is calling trans ladies men... I'm very ok about being critical on how to manage to make it fair as possible to everyone, but it doesn't have to come with the price of mis gendering people. The worst with this is how I see fairly progressive people revert to that, bc following sports is a big thing for them, just like it's for me.

Association of different sports and Olympic committee have yet failed to come up with real options for trans athletes etc. So for now, it's a mix of being banned for sports... or being in there, with either some cis females actually being in unfair disadvantage, or sometimes, even without the actual advantage for the non-cis participant, still leading for bad development on how people speak about trans people/third gender. The world of sports have managed the whole theme as badly you can imagine. It's really a shame.

You should compete with who your number line up with best.

If you're a trans woman and you are the best by a huge margin (like GOAT level, your numbers will never be touched ever), you should compete with the men imo.

Just seems like the most "fair" way to do it (honestly hate the word "fair" being used in sports. Sports are not fair. The people who are the best in the world are genetic anomalies who normal athletes have no chance competing with)

I think when it comes to competing in sports you should compete with/against the sex that you were born as.

One thing I would be interested to know is if a woman who transitioned to being a man has ever competed in mens sports in a highly competitive level and had any success.

We always hear about men transitioning to a woman and competing against women, which causes controversy, but has the opposite ever happened?

I love it, just wish better players played.

But I would replace it with 1 v 1.

This is the last place in the world I would want to discuss such issue, but I do feel like I should at least set the record straight. The Algerian boxer is not a trans woman and the Italian boxer forfeited because they got hit in the face, not because of any issues related to the Algerian boxer's gender. I've been seeing some fox newsy types running rampant on twitter. I am in no way shape or form an expert on intersex people, I don't care to discuss nor do I feel like I should. But this is not some trans panic situation that twitter verified "stock traders" are enraged about.

This.

It’s blatant cheating to use your preferred gender to better yourself in competiton.

Interesting. So people are saying the Italian boxer forfeited because the opponent is trans and the opponent isn't actually trans? Well that's stupid.

Also, a boxer forfeited a boxing match because he was hit in the face? Isn't that supposed to happen in boxing matches?
