12 months?I'm so happy and relieved. Well deserved for a great player and by all accounts quality dude.
I can now finally get a Markkanen jersey and know it's valid for at least 12 months
You’ve got a lot of discretionary income…

He gets the least amount this year. And the most amount in the last years.
Correct?
Just common sense. They probably would have gone with the NYK package around Barrett if there Cleveland was steadfast in keeping Lauri. I also believe in the re-sign article, or the article before that, Tony Jones pointed out he was the main target in the Cleveland trade. How do you know this?
Ah, that’s it.![]()
Lauri Markkanen | NBA Contracts & Salaries | Spotrac.com
Lauri Markkanen signed a 4 year, $195,868,144 contract with the Utah Jazz, including $195,868,144 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $48,967,036.www.spotrac.com
This could be right.
The percentage of the cap is highest in 25/26 where it is 30%.
Then it drops off in terms of percentage of the cap every year, but the money still increases.
I think so too. There wouldnt be a trade without Lauri. He was the target.
Who’s Tim? Cy?Ah, that’s it.
Actual money v salary cap %
Thank you, Tim
So this isn't the conspiracy corner and maybe this is a little like Down Payment Theory... but I had thought that if we gave $24M the max would be reduced by 24M on the back end. It was cut in half and maybe that was a give for not getting a player option or something... but also I just want to consider it "hush money" for playing along with the tank. It is clear to me that we will be developing players. We will be a bottom 6 team this year unless Lisan Al Gaib ascends to the throne... and if that happens we are good (or we are doomed... I haven't read the books... **** I think we might be doomed if that happens).
The discount was no player option on the final yearIn my opinion the extra $12M Lauri got was definitely based on him signing a long term deal with a team that just made Drew Eubanks their key addition for the summer. Lauri has already played along with the tank for the end of two seasons now. I think he gets it.
That said, I do think you have to give him enough minutes at the start of the season to give him a chance at the all star game, and if he looks to be in line for an end of the season award, he'll need at least 65 games total.

McMahon also confirmed that "Development Time" is coming. Said the excess space likely a salary dump.Bobby Marks also predicted some kind of tradeoff for signing after Aug 6th. Maybe the tradeoff was not getting every dollar possible, but Marks had it much lower. I think it's plausible that Lauri would have taken less had we pulled off the PG+Mikal or whatever. I don't think Lauri needed hush money, but at the same time I think everyone knows what Lauri signed up for and it's easier to sign up with some extra cash. Or it's the other way around and it's easier to give up cash if you think you're going to win.
I think Lauri's tone has changed. Previously he had mentioned his playoff aspirations many times and obviously he was frustrated when the FO decided to quit again in the middle of last season. Now all Lauri talks about is being part of the future, building something, etc. The roster is obviously a young developing roster and not a veteran/competing roster... I mean half the roster was on the SL team so I don't think we're entering this year with the question of "what is the point?". I think the point is clear...development is the priority. I'll be damned if people think we built this roster so we can convey a pick and be outside of the top 10.
So does this mean Sexton gone to you or nah?McMahon also confirmed that "Development Time" is coming. Said the excess space likely a salary dump.
I think its going to be different this time around with tanking. I think Lauri is on board (at least for 12 months) and part of that give is patience or buy-in or hush money.
