What's new

Lauri re-signs for 5 years 238 million

So does this mean Sexton gone to you or nah?
No. McMahon basically said the Jazz vets don't have much of a market. Mentioned Sexton may have the best market but that if a deal was solid enough it would have been made by now. Knowing what we know about DA I don't see it. I think if the Lakers came with a pick and DLo that would be the best hope (Dlo rerouted or waived). They should start Sexton. Let him get his numbers and see if anyone gets excited. If not I'd find ways to manage his minutes later on in the year. He's extension eligible shortly so you could even send some hush money his way too.

Just insanity there isnt more of a market, either real or fake (like internet rumors).

On one hand nothing I read about the Jazz's future ever bothers to mention Sexton and I never see him in any trade rumors, even disrespectful ones. I still dont get how he isnt traded, but at the same time, it does seem like nothing is actually out there.

And I get it, because I was a non-believer this time last year, but damn, I find it hard anyone care argue with the numbers he put up this past year and he is on a very team friendly deal for 2 years. Anyone looking to make a final push who needs scoring should be dying to get him.

It is. This is part of why I was so puzzled last year looking at his numbers. I don't think the Jazz have done themselves any service here either with the constant message of "we see him as a sixth man".

But I think teams like the Lakers are the best targets... and those mfers saw Dlo and Mike Conley and were like... WE WANT DLO!!!!

I wonder if the Heat called before doing the Rozier deal. That's kinda what I'd expect the package to be and I like Collin way more than Terry.

Like the Magic. You have a cheap team for a couple more years because of how well you drafted and these dudes being ready now to at least make noise. Push in for Sexton. What is Anthony Black doing on your roster in the next two years?

Yeah and again I think its part of the issue with how the Jazz have positioned Collin. He's a sixth man type... well we have a sixth man type at home... and the sixth man at home is Cole Anthony.

If they had started him all year... given him minutes... I think the view would be different.

But you would think there would be one smart GM that goes and gets him understanding his production and efficiency is pretty bonkers.

McMahon also confirmed that "Development Time" is coming. Said the excess space likely a salary dump.

I think its going to be different this time around with tanking. I think Lauri is on board (at least for 12 months) and part of that give is patience or buy-in or hush money.

The options for going another route don't really exist either. The off season has passed. All you're really looking at is Ingram....but even then you're likely giving up depth and not much closer to the playoffs (if at all).

Much of this is self inflicted by the Jazz. I think there is a natural hesitancy to believe he's a true starter and instead more of a 6th man, and that's exactly how the Jazz have treated him. But it's also just the reality of this archetype. He's a tiny guard who sucks at defense and on top of that there are some valid question marks about turning the offense over to him. Even guys who are true offensive superstars will have some natural doubters if they are this small and this bad at defense. And before anyone says it...I don't care about how intense his face looks Sexton is indeed bad at defense.

I'm willing to take a chance on him and see if he can prove himself to be an elite offensive player in starter minutes. He has potential to be the type of player you tank for. But on the other hand, I would understand trading him. If Sexton weren't on our team, for example, we wouldn't be looking to trade for him.

This is fair. The player type works against him for sure but if you start him and let the numbers accrue he may be seen as one of the best players of that archetype.

Was Lauri Markkanen just an afterthought in the trade. I mean right after the trade the Jazz extended Sexton leading me to think he was a big piece of the deal, and getting a recent lotto drafted player yet to play a game is always a big get, then there’s Markkanen. I mean would the Jazz still have made the deal if it had been say Okoro instead? If true it’s a great story
Sexton was a sign and trade as part of the deal. He was a RFA. Same type of deal that got Markkanen to the Cavs in the first place.

It's tough because you have to be extremely good for people to buy into a tiny guard. Even a player at around a Garland level....some might find that iffy. I think people are too harsh against the short kings, but that is the reality for these guys. You can be extremely good but still not exactly what teams want.

He’s one that plays bigger than his size though. Not all of them do.
