What's new

Media Day is Live

If John is unhappy with being on the bench/being a mentor…it’s really the fault of the FO who brought him in. Can’t blame him. He played really well at the end of last year, so maybe if he keeps that up we can find a taker.

My general impression from media day is that everyone knows that this is a developmental year. If this team surprises and wins more games than expected, it will come via young players exceeding….not vets winning games as in year’s past.

A bunch of twitter folks want to say this is just a re-run of the past two years but it is so clearly not.

Some of these interviewers are pretty awkward for this being their job. Excited about the team more than ever, Hendricks seems to have grown a lot physically but just confidence seems to be up in how he speaks

yeah i didn't watch it on youtube, just listened to it. He sounded like a different person, so much more confident

just listened to the brass presser from the other day Ainge has some kind of witch doctor thing going on, every time i listen to him speak i just end up totally believing that he has everything under control

I'm dazzled by the middle aged dudes they added to the youngsters. What do they bring to the party that Yurt7, THT, Luka, Kenny, Bazely, Dunn, Vernon Carey Jr., Kenny Knox II or Frank Jackson did not?
Experience that can help with the younger players development?

This. John in a different spot. Don't love the comments on starting but nothing "wrong" there at all. Will be curious if he comes off the bench if he pouts or is a pro. I would guess he'd be a total pro about it but it may not be the best thing for the locker room. Its not an ideal situation for either party right now.
There aren't very many teams in the NBA that he'd start for

My pickups/thoughts:
  • Lauri, Taylor and Key all looked more jacked on the upper body than I remember them being. Maybe its my memory playing tricks on me, but especially Hendricks looked much stronger.
  • John Collins wants to be a mentor to the kids and a locker room leader but at the same time he was like "hell no I'm not coming off the bench". Vibes with him were worse than with others.
  • Jordan Clarkson interview was one of the best I've seen. Such fun to watch and he seemed to have super good vibes going on. Dude also loves Flips skillset.
  • Lauri seemed more calm and confident. Remains to be seen if its more about taking a casual approach to this season, or whether its just the trade immunity or something.
  • Patty Mills is obviously Hardy's extension on and off the court, and his role is to be... well.. a role model.
  • Patty Mills believes Lauri has total new levels to reach.
  • Key has leadership vibes and alpha dog ingredients in him that makes me hope he levels up even if that hurts the tank a bit. He wants to take over as a leader, just needs to improve his skills to be credible at that job.
  • One agenda of Hardy (and Patty Mills) is to try and make Lauri and Key hang out off the court. Obviously relates to the last point.
  • Svi interview was a bit cringy. I wonder if he really is here as a prospect, or just an easily disposable end of bench vet. He said he knows Lauri really well from the past.
