How can you seriously say that Utah is building in the right direction? Everything I've heard about LK is he is a good coach but is not a good recruiter.
Well, the fact that he was able to come in late in the game and get Loveridge from West Jordan should dispell the myths about his recruiting abilities. Loveridge is a top 100 recruit and the fact that he bought in enough to what Larry K. has had to say is a pretty big feather in Larry's recruiting cap IMO.
He better have some assistants to do that and I don't know if he does.
Tommy Connor is a great recruiter, especially with the local kids. So in short, Coach K does have assistants with strong recruiting skills (especially locally).
They did land the kid from West Jordan but BYU will get all the kids from the South schools in the next few years.
No offense, but the fact that Utah was able to sway Loveridge away from BYU shows me that Utah isn't simply going to lay down and lose every recruiting battle against. BYU. You're making some pretty big assumptions there.
I think the homer glasses need to be adjusted... Just my opinion.
That's your opinion and that's just fine. My opinion is that snagging Loveridge is a huge coup for the Utes and a sign of things to come in future recruting battles. I'm also the opinion that even though Utah has been awful, I think they've surpassed many expectations considering that before the season started, Coach K had to deal with his best big man Foster being injured for the majority of the season and then later having to kick off possibly his best player in Jiggy Watson. If you would have told me those things would have happened headed into this season, I'd have had serious doubts that Utah would win 1 single game.
Right now the PAC 12 is probably the worst basketball conference out West. The WCC is better and Webers is probably better. That can and probably will change but Utah in no way is in a good position. Considering the PAC is at it worst it's not good that your team isn't even competing in that bad of a conference.
Yes, the Pac is having a down year, but you lose all credibility if you honestly think that the Big Sky Conference is better from top to bottom. And while the Pac will most likely improve, so will Utah.

Even if coach K ends up being pretty good. I don't think that means that Utah will be making any sweet 16 appearances either. Utah needs to realize that they're not Duke or North Carolina. FARRRRR more often than not, you folks are going to finish in the middle of the Pac and will be out in the first two rounds of the tournament (or miss it altogether). Face it, you folks had your shot with Majerus. It's over now. 1998 is over. come join us in 2012
.
I can't understand why you are playing the Duke and North Carolina cards. I never included them in what I felt Utah's program could be 2 to 3 years from now. My entire argument is that they could possibly catch BYU by that time. The fact that you decided to ignore that and tried to point out that they won't be a national power when nobody is saying that they will be makes me believe you're not too confident in where BYU will be when compared to Utah in a few short years.

By the way, i dont think byu is really looking up to the utes in football. (aside from the a** whooping they received last season)
A few things: Utah has won 7 out of 10 meetings (with a few coming in blow out fashion), the fact that with each year, Utah is getting closer to getting full TV money from the PAC 12 that will easily out distance what BYU is pulling in from their ESPN deal, the fact that come this Wednesday, Utah has their first real chance at landing their very first Top 25 recruiting class while BYU will be stuck somewhere in the 40's or lower doesn't show me that BYU "isn't really looking up at the Utes in football". As a matter of fact, every single trend shows the EXAT opposite.
They have won alot of football games for alot of years now with a nice streak of bowl game wins as well.... and they apparently like being independent since they turned down the chance to go into a bcs conference.
Did they "turn down" BCS conferences or did they refuse to let go of BYUtv as a bargaining chip and were simply told "no" by the conferences they were in discussions with? Guess it all boils down to how you want to spin it.
As a byu fan I am quite happy with how things are right now..... lots of wins, and lots of exposure.
Lot's of wins against NMSU, Idaho, Idaho St. and the like must have you very excited. As as far as lots of exposure? Those 8:00 PM time slots on ESPN in late November against WAC and Big Sky schools have to be great for exposure. I'm absolutely certain that east coasters are staying up until 1am so they can watch BYU play the New Mexico State Aggies on ESPN 8 "The Ocho". Awesome exposure. Not to mention the clamourings there must be by the masses around the world to watch replays of the BYU-Idaho game on BYUtv. Again, HUGE exposure for you there.
i would love to get into a bcs game, but 10 wins most years and being on espn or byutv and getting to watch every game of every sport in HD is fine by me..... Plus the football schedule gets much much better in the next few years.
I'm sure you love to get into a BCS game, but it's not happening. Enjoy your 9-10 seasons, yearly trips to the Armed Forces and Kraft Fight Hunger bowls and all of that awesome exposure you're getting. And you better be careful what you wish for. If the independent schedule continues to get stronger, BYU goes from an annual 10 win team to more like 6 or 7.
