It seems that for now three players secured their place in the starting five (Lauri, Keyonte and Kessler) because they simply have no serious internal competition. The last two spots, at PF/SF and SG/PG, which are currently filled by Hendricks and Sexton are different: one make a case for several other current Jazz players to take their positions due to their fit, long-term potential or with future trades in mind.

So, who do you think should start at these spots by the middle/end of this season? After the trade deadline and after enough games to give our rookies some time to adapt to the NBA? I did not include in the poll options Collins, Clarkson, Brice, or Eubanks since the Jazz so far gave no indications they may consider them as possible starters.
 
My take: I think it should be Hendricks and Cody Williams. There is too much length and defense in the Kessler-Hendricks-Lauri frontcourt to seriously consider the alternatives. And despite all impact that Sexton has been having lately I do not see him as a long-term starter at SG on a quality team because his size will be mercilessly exploited in the playoffs. So, by the All Star break the Jazz should either trade Sexton (after showcasing him as a starter) or have a conversation about him buying into becoming the long-term 6th man and transition him into that role. And playing Cody for a long stretch as the starting SG would allow to evaluate if his passing/dribbling is promising enough to develop him as a long-term SG.

In the ideal world, yes. However, even right now the team should make some decisions whom to showcase for the possible trades, who would be offended by being moved to the bench and who should be given a long tryout to see if their game meshes well with our long-term starters.

Last season the Jazz tried to see how things play out with Kessler and Collins at different positions and, as a result, we have a wasted year in the Kessler's development and the unhappy Collins on the bench - and all that trying diminished the trade value for BOTH of them. You need to have some plan beyond letting things to play out.

You know, I would like to believe it too but I want to see real-life examples when a guard Colin's size was effective on a good team. Stockton was but he was obviously much better both on defense and playmaking, AI also was a much better scorer and playmaker. In any case, we probably both agree that Sexton is not on the perennial All-Star level. So, trying to see effective players in his mold who are not All-Stars who would that be?

IT in Boston? Who else? I mean, there are players like Conley, VanVleet, Rozier, and Tyus Jones but all of them are true point guards. Is it just me or there are very few successful 6'0'' SGs in the modern NBA?

Sexton is 6'1.5" (6'3" in shoes) with a 6'7" wingspan. It doesn't really change your point, but it's good to be accurate.

I didn't know that! So, somehow he is the same size as Mitchell but to me he somehow looks noticeably smaller and more exploitable on defense. Has this measurement been done with his current hairstyle though?

Maybe there is a chance Collin really improves on D then? He is essentially the same size as Stockton with more athleticism and speed, so there is no excuse for him not becoming at least a passable defender if he puts his mind to it. Spida eventually did it, Stockton did... so he can become at least as good as Davion Mitchell. I will be watching Sexton on the defensive end for the next couple of games.

We don't know if Cody will be ready to go up against starters. We don't even know if Kessler is a long term fit.
 
If everyone who is currently starting isnt traded, they will probably continue to be the starters.
 
Cody is the only I guy to see the potential to play his way into a starting position....but realistically there will be at least 1-2 guys who earn their starting spot in the same way that Key, Hendricks, and Brice did at the end of last season.
