2024-25 Trade Rumors Thread

To expand/justify on my previous post and show some of the advanced stats where John beats Lauri this year:

StatJohn CollinsLauri Markkanen
TS%63.9%60.3%
PPP (isolation)1.29 (3rd best in NBA)0.77
Offensive on/off+10.8 (95th percentile)+1.5 (61st percentile)
Defensive on/off-3.0 (71st percentile)+0.5 (46th percentile)
BPM2.41.0
VORP0.70.4
PIE14.111.9
PER21.2117.35
NetRTG-3.7 (best of all Jazz main rotation guys)-8.6

Some of those non team-dependant numbers are flat out awesome (TS% for his shot selection, isolation PPP, PER).... so its not only about Lauri numbers being way below what he has put up last two years.

Might as well shut Lauri down for the year

That Collins value assessment is like straight from 2023.

He is bullying Lauri on the advanced stats, and however much you would want to put that on Lauri playing poorly this year, its also quite obvious to anyone watching the games that Collins has evolved his game and improved a lot as a player. The finger injury that once destroyed his value is also 100% history.

Tobias Harris got paid the same AAV that John Collins makes, and hasnt played as well in years as John has this season.

I mean, Lauri just hasn't been good this year.

The issue with Collins is that any team that gets him is immediately not very good on defense as he's just way too small to play center. I can't think of a team trying to win that has the contracts to get Collins and where Collins would be a good fit.

Don’t know if you’ve noticed, but Collins has played even better as a 4 this year and about half of his minutes have come that way.

This doesn’t mean he has good trade value, but we should at least acknowledge the season that is happening in front of our eyes.

You don`t think he would look good next to AD? They have Hachimura and Vincent that combined cover Collins` salary.

Think the Jazz need some fortuitous luck (like someone getting injured for the season) on a team like the Clippers. If DJJ goes down with an achilles tear or something.

While Collins has solid value, it's still a big contract that teams just dont want to pay to that level of player if they arent in some kind of desperate circumstance.

The Lakers are 26th in defense and would aim for different targets and I don't know why we would trade for those guys as Vincent isn't an NBA player and those contracts are pretty long.

There are a few things that made him kind of a tweener and his shooting getting good and more diverse (Less of his 3s are coming from the corner as a % of his three point attempts) is one of the things that alleviates his concerns as a 4. He isn't going to be good guarding some of the more perimeter oriented 4s but if you can play him with a non-shooter at the 5 because he can shoot so well... some of those concerns go away. If he keeps getting better the tweener label becomes versatile... maybe?

I am bought in enough that if we don't get decent value you just keep him. An expiring deal and a second round pick or two is what I'd set the bar at (if I was management and looking to move him). If not just hold. He may even opt out and give you some options to retain him or sign and trade him.

I also enjoy watching him play so that a little light in this dark season.

I think he’s just fine as a defender at the 4 (he was really tough in those ATL playoff runs) and this year he’s also improved as a defender at the 5. John has definitely improved his stock as a player, but unfortunately that doesn’t necessarily mean the market is more favorable to him. I think he could help a ton of teams right now but the logistics of a trade are hard. I still think SAC is the best fit and we can reroute Huerter who is easier to fit elsewhere.

I am just fine keeping him, would not pay anything to get off of him. I would understand a straight dump if the opportunity presented itself, but I’d keep him over Sexton.

I'm probably just keeping him. I think on defense its the perimeter types. Like he was trying to guard Derozan and that just ain't it. He's mostly fine there and does some playmaking on defense. Any bigger contract is tough to move. If a Jimmy deal happens I can see us being a third team and Collins heading to Miami or some 4th team. I'd say there is a 80% chance he stays on the roster mostly due to logistics of a trade.
