Should the Jazz Tank the 2010 - 2011 Season?

Let's face it, this team isn't going to win it all next season. We simply don't have the talent to compete with the big boys. If the jazz want to win a championship within the foreseeable future, the only way they'll likely be able to do it is through the draft. Utah is not an attractive destination for free agents and we don't have many valuable pieces to trade with, let alone any that would net us a starter quality talent. Yeah i know about our trade exceptions.

If we want to compete in the future, they need to tank this upcoming season and hope that the ping pong balls fall in our favor. We basically have two years to put together something resembling a contender or else Deron's going to pull a LeBron on us and leave. The only way we'll likely be able to do this is by drafting an all-star talent to make Deron happy. I'm sick of watching our team be just good enough to wiggle their way into the playoffs each year only to loose in the first or second round and get a 12-20 pick in the draft.

So, even though Sloan would likely never allow his players to take a season off, would you be satisfied finishing the season with a sub 20 win record?

Rebuild, uhm, yes of course thats been the plan all along..... but per Team Policy they couldn't disclose this to the fans.

Sarcasm aside, it looks entirely plausible the jazz were looking to dump Boozer & Korver ahead of the new cba in hopes of picking up some bargains in January 2012 (my guess for when lock-out ends). Or atleast that became the official plan after Boozer bolted and Mathews
signed a toxic offer to show his gratitude for the jazz giving him a chance to play.

Damn right they should tank. Not only should they tank, they should put out the summer league lineup every game, and only put Deron in in garbage time so he won't physically damage himself any further. In fact, why should any of those guys take any sort of risk. They should all just lie down and not really play at all. Sure, they gotta be on the court but why bother running up and down it. They should just like lay down and let the other team do anything. That would totally ensure the Jazz of at least a top 4 pick. That would be fantastic. I mean, it's a championship or absolutely nothing right, so why not really go for absolutely nothing?

LOL did KOC really say that to hawyard?

I'm never in favor of tanking. However, I don't believe the Jazz should mortgage future years to appease fans by taking on ridiculous contracts this off season, which is looking like the only way to sign a player.

I agree with Nate. Not only that, but I heard a rumor that Deron wants to play in Miami. Let's trade him now before we end up like Cleveland. Preferably for a large expiring and maybe a 2nd rounder. All we have to do is suck for several years, dump all our talent for cap space, and keep all our draft picks on the bench until we're ready to make a run for the title. Sure, we may have to overpay a little to get some decent free agents to come here, but hey, at least it won't be Rudy Gay or Joe Johnson. Anyone have a list of free agents available in 2015?

Utah Jazz 2016 champs. We just have to keep our eye on the prize.

A simple "No, keep playing scrappy jazz basketball" would have sufficed.

Pretty great post. Especially the last sentence.
