- I’ve never been to a Real Salt Lake game or Rio Tinto Stadium in general (or whatever the hell its name is now). This one maybe isn’t a huge deal because I’d imagine there are a lot of us here who haven’t done that.

- I grew up for the most part in Utah (Sandy) and give no ***** about the BYU/Utah rivalry.

- I give no ***** about college athletics in general.

- For as much as I know about basketball or baseball (though haven’t followed baseball professionally since the 90s), I really have the most pedestrian understanding of football. People would occasionally speak with me about it assuming I must no something. I do not.

- I’d never been to Antelope Island until two years ago. I’ve also never been on a boat on The Great Salt Lake. I don’t figure most here have, but it’s kind of funny I saw things on Viator where you can do that, and also in conjunction with the fact that when I went to Antelope Island, most the people were foreigners. I found it funny that these people from all over the world are coming to see this and here I’ve been here most of growing up and a large part of my adult life and never bothered being there specifically.

- I’ve only ever eaten three cereals: Lucky Charms (and knock offs), Honey Nut Cheerios, and Frosted Flakes (or other cornflake cereals that I load with sugar).

- I was out sick in fifth grade when we did long division. I’ve honestly never learned it.

I loved game of thrones (I read all the books multiple times) and Harry Potter movies are incredible (red most of those books too) and Lord of the rings is quite good.....
But of all that stuff the one that you really should make a point to watch is Breaking Bad. Just do it.

You don’t need a reservation but there is a fee. I don’t think it was large. There are hours but they’re pretty broad like 6:00 am to 10:00 pm but once you’re in, you can stay as long as you want. Some people go there to stargaze as it’s one of those “dark places,” which I think is a marketing scam (not that they’re not really dark places, but this certification and certifying body of making things a dark spot). It was actually pretty cool out there and not many people.








I probably should have included the Salt Flats, too, as I’d never been out there, either, until last summer. It was actually pretty cool and there were quite a few people out there but once you get out there, it’s a free-for-all and you end up going slightly different directions and you aren’t by anyone at all. I was surprised how big it was. I definitely recommend that. It’s just off I-80 and there’s an Indian restaurant at the gas station at that exit, if you’re interested. I would recommend putting down some newspaper or something inside your car if you get out or especially if you’re taking kids because you will get salt everywhere. It’s also going to be a bitch getting it off your undercarriage and wheel wells.

I've never watched any of the Marvel movies. I really watch very few movies in general, maybe 2-3 movies a year.

I've never owned a non-Nintendo game console.

I don't know anything about music and pay no attention to musicians even if I like some of their stuff.

I’ve done some photography at the Salt Flats. A few tips:

1. But some rubber water boots. Wear those instead of ruining your regular shoes. You’ll never get all the salt off regular shoes. You can get the salt off with regular rubber water boots. You can get a pretty cheap pair at any sporting goods store. So wear regular shoes getting there and switch out of them and into your rubber boots once you get there. I’d also recommend throwing them in a garbage bag once you’ve returned from your trip at the rest stop area, parking lot, or side of I-80. Switch out into regular shoes. That way you don’t get salt all into your car. Once home, take out your salty water boots and hose them off and throw away the bag.

2. I’d never take my vehicle onto the salt flats. One, because of what you mentioned, the salt. But two, many people get stuck out there. The composition of the salt flats gives you false hope that you can travel on them and then you get stuck. Getting out can be a costly expense.

3. Like I said, I’ve done photography out there. Go out in April or May, when there’s some spring runoff and there’s some water out there. The water will reflect like glass. Do this at sunset and man, you’ll get some amazing pics. Later in the year isn’t as good because these shallow water pools dry up. They’ll turn into cracked mud tiles which can also look cool in photography. But I really like the shallow water pools that reflect like glass.

4. I’d recommend to anyone going out to the salt flats or antelope to wear a hat and refrain from wearing good smelling stuff either as cologne or hair product. The brine flies will swarm you and make your scalp itch like crazy. Ask me how I learned this lesson once…

5. Be prepared to travel a bit. You can’t do a u turn on I-80. So you’ll have to travel all the way to west wendover to flip around. That’s a bit of a drive so bring plenty of water, treats, and gas.

Almost same. Seen most Bonds prior Brosnan but very few after those. Never seen full HP movie, a full LOTR movie or any episode of those series. I've been watching sports, playing sports, and when I consume entertainment it's mostly light hearted comedies, stand-up, relaxing science documentaries etc. I'm too empathetic of a person to strain my brains with fiction about very tough subjects like drug cartels, sociopaths,blood thirsty clans and leaders...

I don't believe sailing on the Great Salt Lake is really that common a thing. At least, not when I grew up there, we had a boat there but I never met anyone else who did, outside of the people I met there.

 

[The Thriller]

1. I watched the first episode of Lost and never watched another episode. I think I had hoped there would be dinosaurs or that the show might have pace but after that first episode I lost interest.
1b. I have also never watched Friends. I did love Seinfeld, Home Improvement, and The Office growing up and into college.

2. I’ve lived here in Utah for most of my life and have never skied or snowboarded. Now that I’m older and these hobbies are insanely expensive, I figure I could save the money and instead look like an idiot on a fancy trip someplace fun in the summer.

3. It wasn’t until I was married that I went to a National Park in the SW United States. We went to Zions and then to the Grand Canyon. My parents growing up just weren’t into those things. Even today, they’d rather go to some commercialized crap (Santa Monica pier) than camp in the Unitas, hike the Grand Canyon, or visit Zions. I haven’t been to Bryce or Canyonlands, but as soon as the toddler isn’t so much of a risk, we’re going and we’re hiking.
Side note: again, my family wasn’t big into hiking/camping growing up. But since college I’ve loved the wasatch back and Unitas. I don’t know when I’ll be able to consistently hike the Unitas again. But I do love that area and believe one of the major reasons I stay here in Utah are the number of amazing hikes mere minutes away from the valleys. Timp is on the bucket list. I hiked it once when I was a scout and didn’t really appreciate it. Would love to hike it as an adult.

4. Never been to La Caille in Sandy or Maddox in Brigham City. Nor do I really like shrimp and Sushi. Give me a good grilled chicken or steak any day. I’ll also admit that I prefer my grill over my smoker. Smoker takes much longer and I’m not a huge fan of pork. So I’d rather just grill a $15 dollar ribeye in 10 mins than a gigantic $60 dollar brisket over 10 hours. At some point I’m going to give Sous Vide a shot. Just haven’t made the investment yet for a vacuum sealer and heater.

5. Never been to an NFL game.

6. I don’t know how to parallel park. I did at one time, because I passed the driving test. But it’s apparently a skill I haven’t used in decades and I’ve lost it.

7. I don’t like using toilet paper and much prefer bidets. Wish this cultural thing would catch on here. I have no idea how any of you mortals take dumps in public restrooms with stalls that don’t even go all the way down to the floor and use the ultra thin toilet paper available.

8. I’ve never skateboarded or roller bladed. Bikes are much faster anyway.

9. Never seen the LOTR trilogy. I’ve seen the first movie a few times.

10. I don’t know how to play cards/poker. A king is good, right? It’s the best? Queen is less good? Ace is good? Is the Joker good?
