I disagree. Harris wa a fine alternative. She wouldn’t have rocked the boat. Voters are to blame for this, not Democrats. Voters need to become comfortable with boring. That’s how other industrialized countries are governed. Instead, Americans for some reason demand their political leaders be entertaining and entertain them. Why this country wants politics to be a form of entertainment or sport is beyond me.

When we talk about Jim Crow and the Civil Rights era, do we talk about the presidents who turned a blind eye to it? Do we talk about the governors and legislatures that passed Jim Crow laws? Or do we talk about the racist voters who established this system because, duh they were racist. And duh, because misogyny and racism are clearly still alive and well in America, right? So why suddenly do we ignore this when it comes to every ****ing election Trump wins? He preys on peoples’ bigotry aka he wins by exploiting misogyny and race.
I don’t understand why we can’t just blame voters in 2025. Why must we coddle them? Why do you (and others) insist on treating voters as children? Why does the responsibility for saving voters from voting against their interests fall on the Democratic leader?
Listen guys, not every president is going to be Washington or Lincoln. Many are going to be like Harris, intelligent but average politicians. Democrats are held to an impossible standard. Unless they put forth the most talented, motivational, and entertaining nominee, they lose. And are always blamed for it. That must end.
At some point, we need to have realistic and mature expectations for our political leaders. Harris was a fine nominee as president. Former prosecutor, senator for one of our largest and most powerful states, and vice president. She was good enough.
Voters need to possess more civic virtue. Meaning, don’t re-elect a guy who:
* divides Americans
* whines about visiting WWII memorials because the rain might ruin his hair
* Emulates Putin
* Is racist
* Did Jan 6
* Supremely dishonest, stupid, and incurious
I could go on and on. But at some point, voters need to vote for virtuous, intelligent, honorable, and competent leaders. Harris would’ve done just fine. But Americans don’t want leaders, they want entertainers. And Trump wins because he validates peoples’ prejudices. He gives them permission to be their worst selves. You don’t have to be nice to women. Wear those “grab my *****” shirts! You don’t have to care about minorities. You know that voice inside your head that tells you to not act out, say that thing, and do that bad action? Ignore it. Do whatever you want! Be vile, be crude, be offensive, and get attention! And then if you’re called out, pretend to be a victim! Cuz you are a victim!
Americans have developed a taste for demagoguery. That’s a big problem.

I just googled “Kamala Harris Interviews 2024” and this popped up.
Seems like voters had a number of interviews to choose from.
They could’ve also visited her website. Or listened to one of her many podcasts. Or listened to what Michelle Obama said about her. Or what Barack Obama said about her. Or watched the DNC convention that went like a week long. Or listened to her speech at the convention. Or read a newspaper to see what her views were on things. Or watched the debate she had in which Trump flamed out talking about blacks in Ohio eating pets. Or voters could’ve just used their lil grey cells and remembered how awful Trump was in just 2020. I know that was four whole years ago but still. Or…
Cmon guys, place the responsibility of stupid voting on voters. They weren’t buying what Harris was selling because what she was selling was governing for adults; not indulging voters with what they wanted to hear, like Trump did. They cocked up. Bigly. And now they deserve to feel the consequences of their actions. It’s gonna hurt.

Just a final thought on this, one of the major problems we face as a country is our collective amnesia. We don’t want nor like competent leadership. It’s too boring. So when we face tough complex problems and we hear politicians like Harris explain potential solutions (or processes for solutions) our eyes glaze over, our mouths open wide, and we drool as we fall asleep.
It’s much easier and entraining to turn to a demagogue like Trump.
Immigration? Deport the brown horde and build a wall
Covid? Flashlights up your ***!
Economy? Tariffs good! Trust me, everyone will be rich! Canada will pay for it!
Health care? Two weeks concept of a plan two weeks.
Government spending? Uhhh Doge. And uhh deficit spending.
Gun violence? Thoughts and prayers and within 24 hrs the collective consciousness of the nation will move onto the next story.
And the list can go on and on again.
We need to become comfortable with complex and imperfect solutions. That won’t drive teevee ratings or social media algorithms. But that’s how you govern a country.
