Following Potential 2025 Draftees

I'm pro-Clayton as a prospect (obviously, as a CBB player, I am enamored).

He's small and I doubt he measures well. So that's a huge knock / ceiling right off the bat. But his catch and shoot, shooting off the dribble, and absurdly quick release should translate. You also just have to love his clutch makeup. He straight put that team on his back against UConn, TX Tech and Auburn. I think he turns into a plus version of Patty Mills (better shooting) which would be great value in the second half of the first round.

I will also add (vibes guy comment) - how many of the guys, even the upperclassmen, who have had an all-time NCAA Tournament run like that have been NBA busts? I can think of Shabazz Napier, but the others I can think of - Kemba, McCollum, Andre Miller, Steph, Hayward, D-Wade et al - all went on to very good NBA careers.

I understand the perspective of not overreacting to the NCAAs. It's < = 6 games. But for the guys who absolutely crush it - it's highest-level basketball, against the best teams in the country, who are keying against you every game and you still go out and get yours. There's something there with respect to prospect evaluation.
Better shooting Patty Mills is crazy because Mills is a career 39% volume shooter. If you could guarantee that outcome, he's probably a lottery/mid teens pick.

JT Toppin returning to school. I thought he might be a sleeper option for the Jazz with the Twolves pick, depending on where that lands.

Edit: NIL is having a real effect. It's risk-free rookie-scale, or better, for a lot of these guys, and for half the number of games.

Pretty much a no brainer for any undersized big to just return to school. CMB should probably transfer and do the same.

A mid first round pick will be guaranteed close to $10M over two seasons and if they aren’t JHS and make it to the end of their rookie deal it’s double that. For anyone in the top 20 it is 100% the better financial decision to go to the NBA, but if you’re not guaranteed to go first round I think taking the $3-5M from NIL is reasonable if you love college.

What rate is NIL expected to grow for individual stars? It's grown so much the past 3 years. Maybe these guys will give getting 5 million contracts soon.

The bigger impact it has on players staying, the more valuable lottery picks will be and the more that picks will be worth which will make them harder to acquire and will again raise the incentive to tank.

College players should be paid, but this Wild West of NIL and the portal ****ing blows.

I think of it as a good thing, how many of these guys will be better players and pros with an extra year or two at the college level, instead of sitting on the bench in the NBA and doing tours of the G-league?

For starters it should be in June not now, players should have to nominate for the June portal by lets pick the 1st of January and teams can only have 1 incoming transfer a year. (excluding Juco's)
