He's not the analyst in the group and has never been. He's an interviewer. Mike Schmidtz was the scout guy and now it Jeremy Woo.
Nothing has changed how Givony does stuff. You don't get access to workouts if you're just going to post a video of them missing shots.
Givony used to lots of analysis and give actual opinions. Now he’s an “insider guy”. It’s very obvious that he trades PR for access nowadays. Very cozy with the agents. His interviews and opinions are way different when he’s obviously in bed with the agencies.
If you listen to his podcast appearance with Nate Duncan last cycle you will get a taste of what he used to be. He wouldn’t let those opinions surface on ESPN.

Tbf to Givony, the media landscape has changed especially with social media. I think Woj really changed the game and agencies are involving themselves more than ever. Don’t think 2012 Givony could exist anymore. There’s no doubt the content is worse, but I don’t really blame DX for making the transition to E$PN. It’s the reality of NBA media these days.
BTW, has Gordo made his decision yet?
Yeah, y'all are remembering wrong. Givony has always put out workout videos that are made to show the prospect in the best light. That's not changed.
Givony also didn't write any in depth articles outside of the European scouting he did.
I think people just have a warped perception of Givony's role and don't really know what's going on currently because most of the content is behind a paywall so the only stuff you see now is the workout video portion.

Yeah, it's wild to view a 19 year old who put up the scoring and shooting stars Tre did while being 6'6 with a 6'10+ wingspan as being a potential star.
I also remember the talk last year that Givony was paid to hype up Risacher and that he wasn't good and wouldn't be drafted in the top picks...
Like in the Tre Johnson video that some people decided to take issue with, he says he needs to work on ball handling, decision making, and defense. Are we expecting an in depth strengths/weaknesses in a ESPN TV bit that last 3 minutes, with not even the full 3 minutes about Johnson?

To my memory the only prospect breakdowns Givony would do were international. The videos and analysis were done by other members, namely Schmidtz.
Givony has always given his opinion, and still does. Any big board is ultimately a critical analysis. I seriously doubt he is ranking players higher or lower due to access.

I think ESPN acquired DX to basically take it out of the market. It was starting to upstage ESPN’s draft coverage with Chad Ford and that analytics guy based in Portland (whose name escapes me).
