2025 Off-Season Trade Ideas Thread

This is one of the better trade ideas out there.

Genuinely makes a lot of sense for both teams.
Im calling that some version will happen. It just makes too much sense. Giannis will cost too much. 2 for Lauri is an overpay, but they have so many assets and it guarantees you a title contender for the next 4 years. They have a ton of assets to make more moves too.

He also happens to be the perfect player profile to pair with Wemby, Castle and Fox, and 27 years old.

It makes a lot of sense. Otherwise, the Harper fit makes for a clunky situation/fit.

I do agree that developing both Castle and Harper while Wemby is ready to win now is not smart, so I think SAS will trade one of them. I wonder if they would be more inclined to trade Castle?

Lauri to the Spurs makes a lot of sense. This is plausible, but I do think we would have to add some stuff to get Harper.

The Fox move signals they have some desire to be a winner now. Harper is a risk in how long he takes to develop and how much he can develop alongside a true lead guard like Fox and a developing Castle.

If I'm the Spurs and deciding been Castle and Harper (two prospects I personally really like, btw), I think I would keep Harper since I think he is a better prospect overall. You might also take advantage of Castle winning ROY, and potentially having a high trade market.

On the other hand they might like what Castle does better, and be more inclined to stick with what you have, and I'm sure that as high as Castle's trade market is, they can get more for Harper.

Who should the Spurs go for

1. One of the 20 best players in NBA history, a guy with a Finals MVP.
2. A fringe top 25 player (single season, not all time) when healthy and motivated, a guy who has never made the postseason.

The Jazz more than likely need to reset their window and start focusing on 2027. It looks very much like next year is going to be “tank 2.0” and if that’s the case, they should be looking to flip all their appreciable assets and expiring contracts. They need to go back into asset accumulation mode and start looking to acquire additional picks and/or future pick swaps right now.

Personally, I’d look at teams that need to either
A.) get off of a massive salary player who is either injured or ineffective. - Philly & Milwaukee come to mind there -
or B.) desperately need to get under the second apron and can do a 1 for 1 swap of a guy at a lower price tag.

Collins, Sexton and Clarkson should all be gone this summer, and the Jazz can look at using the non guaranteed contracts of KJ Martin, Svi and Juzang as well.

As for Lauri, I’d say they need to allow teams to call them about him, but don’t look to move him unless they get a really good offer. Ideally, I’d like to get a tangible top 10 pick in this draft to pull that trigger.

Trade concept:

Gafford -> LAL
Sexton -> DAL
Vando -> UTA

Picks to Utah. The Luka trade was the down payment.

Why wouldn't they just go get Giannis with the #2 pick though?
Giannis is going to cost significantly more than one great draft pick. There’s a lot of skepticism from Spurs fans that they should trade the pick at all.

My guess is that Giannis ends up in Houston, the Spurs pivot to Lauri but want to keep a top 5 pick this year, so they offer to swap 2 & 14 for 5 & 21 plus a haul of future picks instead of their premium one right now.

What can Houston offer that’s better than the #2 pick?

I don’t think that San Antonio is giving up the #2 pick. They might be willing to drop back and give up value in a draft that looks to have a solid top 5 prospects. . . especially if they get a win-now piece to go along with their top 5 guy.

John Collins for Dejounte Murray and a top 10 protected first is something that looks good on paper. Dejounte is probably finished and Collins is a sneaky good fit with the Pels.
They own the Pacers pick next year. I pitched that idea on the pod... Collins for Murray and the Pacers pick. Its not a great pick but I think Murray may be okay for the last year and a half of that deal maybe. Trading for an injured player is the offseason goal... plenty to choose from right now.

I did Sexton to Dal, Gafford to Phoenix as part of a Beal dump to Utah where we get picks. I think Gafford/Sexton three teamer makes sense. Not sure Dallas will let Nico talk to Rob right now.

Yeah but giving up Lauri just to get from Tre to Harper.. is that enough of a return?

I think you could sell high on either guy tbh. If Harper comes in and has some struggles his value declines. Fox and Haliburton became an issue for Fox and Hali's game is way easier to fit. I could see Harper struggling with the role and taking a backseat and everyone being a little unhappy. They should get out in front of it.

On top of it they likely made a wink wink deal with Fox already. So he will be on a long term deal for better or worse. I think Giannis is the play and if it cost Harper so be it. I don't know if Castle gets is done if Houston comes with Senguin and picks plus their prospects.
