You think we can pull off a tank with Lauri again? IMO, you can't have an expectation to trade Lauri at value if you are tanking. You are going to continue making him look bad and his value will never return unless you are not tanking.

Jazz made a pretty massive mistake not trading Lauri before last season IMO. Tank worked, but Lauri had a significant loss in value as a result of it. If we had won the lottery we could turn this thing around quicker, but right now Lauri is just providing negative value as we tank.

The plan should be to try for the first 25 games (which should be past the December 15th marker that makes some trades easier), trade him, and then tank hard.

The team should easily be able to finish with like the 4th worst record even if they start the year 11-14. And they probably wouldn't even win that many as Collins and Sexton are absolutely gone this summer.

I think Lauri knows what's happening. I bet he doesn't like it, but... that's what all those millions in his bank account are for. I think we will be more competent than last year... (probably still bottom 5). I think he likely plays more, although I can still see him not playing back to backs or being benched with the mildest of a hint of an injury. At this point he's probably more valuable to us as a piece of the future(bringing the young guys into a better functioning team, whenever we finally decide to compete) than a couple of bad firsts would be. We already have a ton of picks. We cannot roster all those players over the next 3-4 years if we keep adding 2-3 of them every year.

I think his only value would be for the future, and that future looks further away then ever. Hoping to trade him for value is pretty much a lost cause if you decide to tank. So all you can really hope for is that he's still here when we get to the other side and years of tanking doesn't have an effect on his ability. I could understand if you don't think the pick value is worth it, but having too many picks is not a concern I would think about. Can always trade quantity for quality as we already have, and if we ever run into a problem where we cannot roster worthwhile prospects we have done an incredible job drafting.

I worry that playing him at all will put our pick next year at risk. The younger guys will improve. We were very fortunate with the tank this year, I don't want to F around at all and I certainly want to aim for the #1 tank spot again. If Lauri is back, it is non-negotiable that Sexton and Collins are gone.

Anyways, I should have clarified that this thread is NOT a should we trade him or should we not. This thread is about 1) IF we are going to trade Lauri and 2) What would that look like.

You're likely right, but I just don't understand what the plan is. Locke keeps saying we're likely tanking two more seasons, so we just make Lauri sit a bunch of games for two more years and try to intentionally lose every game again? We just ask him to completely waste two more years of his prime? Those are years he will never ever get back. Then what? Once the tanking is over, he will be 30 years old surrounded by a roster full of 19-22 year olds. His timeline and the team's timeline are so far apart.

It just feels like the front office really should have picked a lane a year or two ago and either used our draft assets in trades to build a competitive team around Lauri or else gone all in on tanking and building through the draft and traded Lauri while his value was at its highest.

You are right about picking a lane... well they kind of did but not hard enough. I think as of right now unless you can get decent value for Lauri you hold BUT Shams is saying this a crazy summer and teams think they have a chance... so I could see a decent enough offer out there to make a move.

Since he's on a long term deal we can find other ways to cut back on win now stuff and maybe get him playing a bit better while tanking.
 
I think the East teams should see blood and be the one's making the moves to win now. That conference is complete *** and has plenty of parity. If you put Lauri on DET, ORL, MIA, TOR, ATL, or PHI they could be very competitive with the top of the East. I'm even listening to Hornets fans think about the prospect of competing and they are not that crazy. Lauri could take any of those bottom feeders into the playoffs and that can mean something to them.

TOR, DET, and PHI would be the three teams I'm looking at.
 
Most years in the history of following this team, if the Jazz were trading for a player of Lauri's caliber we would all be ecstatic.

To suggest he had no value or negative value in a season where we were clearly trying to tank is like devaluing Bill Gates fortune because he spent $6 billion one year trying to completely eradicate Polio. Yeah, fortune dropped, but it is still Bill Gates.
 
If we were to consider trading Lauri, I would think there are plenty of teams interested. Houston makes sense as a trade partner for a lot of reasons.

Reed Shephard isn't getting off the bench. Sengun isnt necessarily built for winning in the playoffs.

Why not Sengun and Shephard for Lauri? I think that fits everyones time lines better. Maybe you could talk them in to a pick swap... say #21 for #10?
 
Sengun is more valuable than Lauri.

I would like to trade with HOU, but I don’t think Lauri is a great fit there. They need a better on ball creator which Lauri is not. Could argue that Sengun+Lauri is a good combo….I think they have their sights set higher than that.
