I don't think that there's enough discussion about whether the Clipper's trade for Paul George was one of the worst trades in recent NBA history. In hindsight, it was arguably worse that the Luca Doncic trade.

Nah. PG is PG.

A 1st team all NBA+1st team all defense with multiple all-star appearances who will be in the conversation for HoF when he retires. It's just a matter of not knowing SGA would end up being this good. Hardly uncommon. OKC made this mistake themselves when they dealt Harden to Houston for even less.

It's not any where near as dumb as trading Sabobis/Oladipo for a fricking role player in Serge Ibaka. Especially after OKC was able to use this same exact package to acquire PG just one year later, while Orlando had to deal Ibaka to Toronto for Terrence Ross(who?)

It's definitely one of these “it was bad at the time, and it gets even worse over the years” type of moves.

Nah, not as bad as the Luka trade. SGA was I think the 11th pick. He had a decent rookie year. After the year no one was projecting he’d be a star let alone a top 5 player mvp type player and Clips didn’t care because they were getting a star in Paul George. It’s turned into a really bad trade only because SGA has gone nuts over the last 2-3 years.

Post Indiana PG who freshly came out of a career year, averaging career high 28+8, with first team all NBA+all defense recognition to his name. And LAC didn't just get PG. They got PG with Kawhi. Kawhi wouldn't have signed unless LAC acquire PG. It was definitely the move that shook the league at the time which put LAC in the spotlight. It's what Ballmer always wanted that made them tons of money through tickets and merch. So yeah... Definitely better than the Luka to LAl trade or the harden to HOU trade. Wayyyyyyyyy better than the Serge Ibaka trade which gifted OKC the assets to acquire PG in the first place, all because of a young rookie GM that Sam Presti hired to undermine the Orlando Magic organization.

Yep this is the story, Clips traded SGA and picks for basically Kawaii AND George. There isn't a single person anywhere who wouldn't have traded a young 11th pick player and some picks for 2 all NBA players arguably near their prime.

Most importantly, it kept Kawaii from the Lakers so I was happy.

LOL, ok, you've convinced me. I retract my statement. There are some hills worth dying on. This isn't one of them.

Well ya, SGA going nuts is the biggest reason it was such a bad trade and worse than the luka trade at this point imo.
In fact, if luka gets fatter, more drunk, and more out of shape and continues to be the worst defensive player of all time and Flagg turns out to be an mvp level player then the luka trade could end up being a fantastic trade for dallas. Get AD and a future MVP for a fat lazy drunk going downhill.

Ya it’s a bad trade but due to Clippers bad luck. It will never be as bad as the ka Deal because that was made out of sheer stupidity. Now if what you laid out happens will just be sad because that means stupidity is being rewarded.
