The Growing Thirst for Cruelty

Just when you think the media can’t go any lower, they just have to prove you wrong.

The Associated Press has outdone itself with a jaw-droppingly insane article that frames the Trump administration’s effort to track down 450,000 unaccompanied migrant children as some kind of sinister overreach.

These are kids—some as young as toddlers—who flooded across the border under Biden’s watch, only to be released to barely vetted “sponsors” and then vanish into a black hole of bureaucratic neglect.

A 2024 federal audit exposed the horror: 85,000 kids unreachable, 32,000 dodging court hearings, and 291,000 never even enrolled in immigration processes.

Yet, the AP clutches its pearls over “door knocks” and DNA tests, as if checking on vulnerable children at risk of trafficking or abuse is the real crime.

The AP’s argument collapses under basic logic: how is it wrong to ensure these kids are safe? Americans aren’t fooled—70% support deporting criminal migrants, per a 2024 Rasmussen poll, and the outrage over cases like Laken Riley’s murder shows zero tolerance for lax oversight.

The Trump team’s multi-agency push to locate these minors isn’t heavy-handed; it’s the bare minimum to prevent a human trafficking nightmare.

The media is now coming out pro-human trafficking or…

Ever on the lookout for a decent gulag, Trump sets his eyes on Libyan prison camps. For some, maybe just the crime of being in the United States. The punishment? Maybe a gulag. Stephen Miller must be overjoyed. El Salvador. Libya. Got their eyes on a few other African nations.

On Wednesday afternoon immigration lawyers filed an emergency motionasking Boston-based U.S. District Judge Brian Murphy to block any removals to Libya, or any third country, citing 'alarming reports' in the media about imminent deportations.

They argued that their clients, who are from Laos, Vietnam and the Philippines could be sent in a matter of hours. It's unclear if the judge in the case would be able to block the deportation.

Earlier this week, Rwanda's foreign minister confirmed that the East African country was in talks with Washington about the same issue. All these countries have notorious human rights records.

The deportations to Libya are expected to be carried out by the U.S. military. A second U.S. official not authorized to speak publicly about the plans told NPR's Tom Bowman that the flight to Libya hadn't started yet. The plans involve the use of a single aircraft that wouldn't be full, the source said.

They use the phrase "the politics of cruelty" in this article. They also mention that this has become kind of a political litmus test for the right wing, to show solidarity with the cause. That cause is, of course, to invoke cruelty against the "enemies" of the right.

It’s good that MAGA gets to experience what he has done to others this whole life. I hope we all learn this very valuable lesson to about care for others, even when it’s hard.

Unfortunately, it’s too late now. The economic effects of this, as each week passes, compounds the massive damage rippling across the world economy. It’s like watching a tsunami coming in slow motion, and you can’t move.

This is gonna make COVID look like a trial run.

Stay well and safe out there everyone.

MAGA doesn't care, they believe what the cult leader tells them, regardless of reality. The same people who were telling us "you'll see, prices will immediately come down, Trump is a business genius, you are just a hater" are now saying, unironically, "you'll see, it will take a while, and we will have to deal with the high prices Biden left us, then prices will come down, Trump is a business genius. you are just a hater", as if they never said the other stuff. It is almost surreal to see the shifting sands in real time. They won't care until it really hits them, and even then they will just believe whatever Trump says. It will take loved ones being permanently affected to generate any kind of change, kind of like one cousin of my wife who has been hit directly as he is ex-military and he and his wife both lost their jobs at the VA due directly to Trump cuts, so he has changed his tune. It will take that level of impact to effect any kind of change realistically. The cult is that strong.

I thought we were spurring a total economic overhaul and decoupling from China?!?! Bring manufacturing back!!!! It said it was gonna do it on Truth before it was elected we knew the whoooole time?!?!

This is how rape victims with Stockholm Syndrome speak. Imagine that….

China has Trump completely dominated. There’s no way they can face the humiliation so we’ll continue to watch them punch themselves in the dick.

LOL

Wait, isn’t this communism (see link below)? I seem to remember the brown happy lady saying something about companies price gouging us before tariffs and the entire right and main stream media cried out that she was a communist or something. Is communism okay now?

Wait, didn’t Trump also tell us to expect higher prices because of tariffs and that we could no longer buy 30 dolls for our kids? Is he now threatening companies so I can buy 30 dolls? I don’t get it. What is all of this for?!

I’m confused. Why are we doing tariffs again? To replace the income tax? To bring back manufacturing so our kids can screw in iPhones for pennies? Or to punish counties?

Why am I paying higher prices for stuff? Is this what we voted for last fall?

I know Biden had a mean dog and the brown lady wasn’t perfect, but at least 7 months ago we had a coherent economic policy, inflation was going down, and my 401k was going up. Is anyone here better off now than they were under Biden?

Trump’s using the military against civilians again, and this time they know how to do it “legally”.

It will be at our doorstep soon enough.

They voted for this.

I hope all the Muslims in Michigan and Latinos nationwide are feeling good about what they did last fall. They can’t say they weren’t warned.

This certainly ranks as cruel….”I refuse to treat this veteran because he’s a Democrat”.

Doctors at Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) hospitals nationwide could refuse to treat unmarried veterans and Democrats under new hospitalguidelines imposed following an executive order by Donald Trump.

The new rules, obtained by the Guardian, also apply to psychologists, dentists and a host of other occupations. They have already gone into effect in at least some VA medical centers.

Medical staff are still required to treat veterans regardless of race, color, religion and sex, and all veterans remain entitled to treatment. But individual workers are now free to decline to care for patients based on personal characteristics not explicitly prohibited by federal law.

Language requiring healthcare professionals to care for veterans regardless of their politics and marital status has been explicitly eliminated.

Doctors and other medical staff can also be barred from working at VA hospitals based on their marital status, political party affiliation or union activity, documents reviewed by the Guardian show. The changes also affect chiropractors, certified nurse practitioners, optometrists, podiatrists, licensed clinical social workers and speech therapists.

In making the changes, VA officials cite the president’s 30 January executive order titled “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government”. The primary purpose of the executive order was to strip most government protections from transgender people. The VA has since ceased providing most gender-affirming care and forbidden a long list of words, including “gender affirming” and “transgender”, from clinical settings.

Medical experts said the implications of rule changes uncovered by the Guardian could be far-reaching.

They “seem to open the door to discrimination on the basis of anything that is not legally protected”, said Dr Kenneth Kizer, the VA’s top healthcare official during the Clinton administration. He said the changes open up the possibility that doctors could refuse to treat veterans based on their “reason for seeking care – including allegations of rape and sexual assault – current or past political party affiliation or political activity, and personal behavior such as alcohol or marijuana use”.

The Department of Veterans Affairs is the nation’s largest integrated hospital system, with more than 170 hospitals and more than 1,000 clinics. It employs 26,000 doctors and serves 9 million patients annually.

In an emailed response to questions, the VA press secretary, Peter Kasperowicz, did not dispute that the new rules allowed doctors to refuse to treat veteran patients based on their beliefs or that physicians could be dismissed based on their marital status or political affiliation, but said “all eligible veterans will always be welcome at VA and will always receive the benefits and services they’ve earned under the law”.

He said the rule changes were nothing more than “a formality”, but confirmed that they were made to comply with Trump’s executive order. Kasperowicz also said the revisions were necessary to “ensure VA policy comports with federal law”. He did not say which federal law or laws required these changes.

And of course the right either acts like they’re never going to lose power or that the left won’t act as irresponsibly as they do. This is why it’s baffling to me that anyone with half a brain cell could claim that both sides are the same. Just imagine the outrage of President AOC doing this but to republicans and red states. It’s absurd just to think about it. So much of our current situation is dependent on voters voting for the most entertaining candidates hoping that they won’t actually fulfill their campaign promises. IMO, it’s time for voters to feel how hot that stove truly is.

Yup, those who voted for Trump suffering massively for their hateful idiocy would be fine by me. Unfortunately everyone will suffer along with them.

If it reminds voters how important it is to elect responsible and thoughtful adults to government, then good. Frankly, I’m tired of the nonsensical politics I’ve experienced for most of my adult life. From the insipid tea bagger movement to birtherism to Trump. It’s time for people to wake the **** up and empower government to function in order to make lives better instead of using government as a form of entertainment or a way to lash out at minorities because your daddy didn’t give you enough love and attention growing up. I know that 30 percent of the population is lost and will remain lost in the fantasy that Fox News and social media algorithms have created for them. But I’m hopeful that some pain might be enough to awaken a portion of the electorate that has taken our democracy for granted. It’s not partisan to want civically responsible leaders. What we have right now are a bunch of trolls and broken children obsessed with getting attention.
