Netflix recs?

It’s truly special how bad tv and movies are now. No surprise. Dumbing everything down to the lowest common denominator.
I disagree.

Name me a handful of great shows from the last year or two. Or a handful of great movies that have come out in the last year.
Let me try a few favoirite series I’ve seen over the past 1-2 years..

- Shogun
- Day of the Jackal
- Adolescence
- The Residence
- Baby Reindeer
- Last of Us
- Presumed Innocent
-True Detective Night Country
- Severence
- White Lotus
- Arcane

Still to watch..

- MobLand
- American Primeval
- Black Mirror new season
- Andor
- 1923
- Poker Face
- The Penguin
- The Bear
- Ripley

I would say those are all pretty excellent.

- Shogun—I’ll try
- Day of the Jackal—maybe I’ll try—more IP ugh
- Adolescence—great but four episodes
- The Residence—I’ll give it a whirl
- Baby Reindeer—Couldn’t get into it
- Last of Us—Jesus this show is a joke
- Presumed Innocent—solid but a remake
-True Detective Night Country—lmao-sucked
- Severence—like 3 years old iirc
- White Lotus—like 3-4 years old but awesome
- Arcane—not familiar with it

Still to watch..

- MobLand-avg
- American Primeval-avg
- Black Mirror new season-meh
- Andor-not watching Star Wars/Marvel crap
- 1923-nope-not getting sucked into the TS template
- Poker Face-meh
- The Penguin-stop
- The Bear-like 3-4 years old
- Ripley—started it but couldn’t get into it. TTMR is one of my top ten favorite films from the last 30 years too.

Responded to each.

I think the problem is any shows are flown through so then it feels like there are no shows to watch.

Films are the bigger problem. I’m just done with superheroes, rehashed IP and remakes, and plot lines that are the same or variations of crap that’s been done a dozen times before.

Also Severance reminds me too much of similar shows or series. Maniac with Jonah Hill and Emma Stone is one. I forget the other one which is even more similar.

Adolescence was pretty good. I see your Jodie Foster, I raise you Diane Keaton.

Disagree. Keaton pretty much plays the same sweet, flirty character in every film. No one says, “Oh that Diane Keaton is a great actress or a great dramatic actress.” Foster is talked about as if she’s on the Mount Rushmore of great thespians from the last 50 years. I’d be hard-pressed to even put her in my top 25-50 from that timespan.

People are always saying Diane Keaton is brilliant, she's part of that New York Woody Allen kabal. I think she's ****ing nuts and a terrible actress who always plays the same character in every film. i also think Foster is overrated. If I had to pick 4 top actresses for the last 30 years it would be

Cate Blanchet
Allison Janney
Edie Falco
Hillary Swank (I have a soft spot for, poor white trash.)

Im really looking forward to a show coming in august called Weapons. (kind of reminds me of the hbo show called The Leftovers which is one of my favorites)

I think TV is better than ever before right now. So many great shows to watch. Its hard to keep up.

Good movies are more rare but still plenty of good ones.
