What Do You Think The Kessler Extension Would Look Like?

Regarding a Walker Kessler extension Locke thinks per season it would be $20 million on the low end and $25 million on the higher end.

He cited comps that would benefit us (I don't remember which players they were) and comps that would benefit Kessler (like the recent Poeltl signing of 4 years 104 million or Nic Claxton at 4 years 97 million - this was from June 2024).

Now that The Lakers signed Ayton for two years at 16.6 million there's a chance we extend Walker... so how much do you think he would get from The Jazz?

PS. Happy July 4th!!!

5/175 to make him whole for being willing to throw 7 games last year.

Kessler was the key guy who had to go along with the tank as he had to agree to rest (strategically against the very worst teams in the league) with no injuries and very publicly join a very humiliating thing that the NBA got very very pissed off about.

Besides rewarding him for tanking, Locke is an extremely stupid guy for thinking he would get less than Jakob Poeltl. They're around the same level and Poeltl might be toast in 2 years whereas Kessler has not peaked yet.

$26M/year for 4 years with a team option on the 4th if they want to extend him now. Or, they'll let him enter restricted free agency. The latter is probably the smarter move for the Jazz, given how the market has dampened for 2nd and 3rd-tier players.

Comparables at $26M are Myles Turner and Jakob Poeltl. Jarrett Allen is up to $30M/yr, while Ivica Zubac is about $20M/yr. on his current deal, but that deal is a couple years older.

Poeltl and Turner are way older than Kessler and may produce 0 value in years 3 or 4 of their deal. They are not comparable, Kessler will get a lot more as his injury/decline risk is massively lower for the tail end.

If I'm Kessler I'm taking a team friendly contract (so somewhere between 20-23 a year) with a player option on the final year.

30 is way too much. We do not want 80 million cap hit from Lauri and walker be a team that finishes dead last. I dont care how much you like walker

Hopefully $25mil annually or less. If Turner is getting $26 then Walker should be getting closer to $20 with his resume (essentially 0 minutes playing high-stakes moments, hackable free throw shooter).

Furthermore, if his value isn’t high enough to demand a serious trade return, it’s not high enough to demand serious money.

I feel like five years $130 mil. Is fair, front loaded with a team option on the fifth. That way if it doesn't fit Harry's scheme once were trying he can be moved

Virtually everyone on the board knows this better than me, but if we sign him to ~5/150, wouldn’t that make trading him next to impossible with the new CBA? Hence why guys like Clarkson and Sexton weren’t able to fetch anything for us? Yes I know the latter was traded but we had to give away a 2nd to do so.

Every contract is tradable. 23yo double double centres don't grow on trees, I think at this age he's better than Rudy and has more potential. This is a big year for him.

And never forget that everyone knows better than you, always!

When was the last time an offensively limited center was worth $30+?

Look at the ones who actually do have some offense, and they can’t stay in one place because it’s just not good business to pay centers that much:
Porzingis
Ayton
KAT

We all know what happened with Rudy and how his contract was an issue.

I guarantee Jarrett Allen will start being an issue in Cleveland when his contract hits $28+ next year.

Embiid will be an issue before long. Turner will likely be an issue in Milwaukee.

I’d say trade him rather than pay $30+
