Lauri for George rumors heating up.

folks say that lauri doesn't fit the timeline but he still kind of does. sure, he's 28. guess what, golden child walker kessler is 24. that's only four years different. rookie walter clayton is 22, that's only six years different. six. years. Paul is friggin 35. that's not fitting the timeline. lauri will still be plenty productive when ace starts to hit his stride. his only problem is his big contract, but the cap keeps going up so that might beome less of a problem in future years. he's near the cap of the timeline but he can still fit just fine. (edit: rookie john tonje is 24. yeah.)
 
I mean, when people are talking timeline with Lauri, I don't think its really that he's too old to play with the young guys. He's getting near the edge, he'd be early 30's but probably still have some good years left. Its more like, these guys will be ready to make some noise in 4-5 years. Until we hit that point though the way the system works, winning is counter-productive. Lauri kinda accelerates things so we might not get as good picks until then as we otherwise might have, or might make us start winning earlier than we'd expect, and so maybe this iteration of the Jazz rises while they are still a player or two short and stalls out as a first round playoff team again. Would suck to go through all of this and then have to restart before we ever even get anywhere.

If you keep him you keep him in the hope that you can fill in one of those players you need through other means so you don't have to go through the draft. Exchange some of that potential draft value for keeping the door open to build a good team through a homerun trade.

But yeah, George, older, more expensive, under contract almost as long, shuts the door on trading into a good team, but still a good enough player to threaten draft position is worse in every possible way for us. Wouldn't happen unless the 76ers were willing to give up way more than would be rational for them to do.

I would do a deal with Philly. Lauri and something like Keyonte and Swallowing and spitting PGs trash contract for...

(and yes, this is why he went in the second round, i get it but while age is significant, it isn't everything and lauri's talent plus his liking beigng in utah counters his 'four years' in my opinion.

also, getting rid of talent because they make us win too much is another way of saying introduce losing culture. i've already said i hate the tank so i really don't get why you would want to trade away someone because they are good even though they still have at least five good years in them.

Give to me a list of 20 All NBA superstars who will accept getting traded to Utah Jazz as soon as next summer?
i say there's none of those because real ALL NBA superstars won't like to tank and lose what Jazz is doing.

One thing to consider: the Sixers own the clippers 2028 first round pick unprotected. The way things are going, that clippers team will either not have Kawhi and harden or they will be pretty advanced so it may end up a really valuable pick. The Sixers also own swap rights with the clippers in 2029

Those could be two really valuable assets. I’m not saying it’s enough for Lauri but the Sixers do have some valuable trade capital
 
Regarding any "timeline" debates, fact is we dont have one. You need the #1 guy before you announce timelines.

We are in purgatory indefinitely until we find HIM.

On the other hand if Ace or whoever is HIM, then the clock is already running and we just dont know it.

Well, since nearly everybody is obsessed with "blueprints to a championship", I'd say we'd better take any Paul George trade pretty seriously ;)

They do have Maxey, hit a gem in McCain and got VJ (outside of other decent role players).

It's hard to say whether there's anything left in Embiid knees, but I think that by getting Lauri, the Sixers could lessen the burden on Embiid. Both in terms of not needing to force himself to play through injuries (or rushing a comeback) as much, Embiid would be able to get more load management rest, and Lauri would be a nice large body (and high quality shooter) that could diminish how much bumping and its wear and tear Embiid would need to accumulate when playing, in a way that Paul George can't do for him (and that's even before accounting for much PG despises playing as a PF).

I can definitely see the combination of these factors having quite a positive impact in Embiid being healthier for a postseason.

That's a fair point. I just have a hard time attributing value to an unprotected pick owned by the LA's, Philly's, NY's of the world. These teams can generally maneuver and spend out the *** to not be terrible, which they're incentivized to do when they don't own their pick. Never know, of course, but it just feels like the "ABC's unprotected pick in the year WXYZ" always tends to flop a bit.

If you are trading for Lauri, you arent going to get to keep McCain and VJ. At least one would be in the deal.

Yeah, that's right. A deal wouldn't make sense for the Jazz without one of them.

Still should be a quite good team even in Embiid absence (and potentialy special in his presence). Still is a "is it worthy for the Sixers to mortgage whatever future assets they still have for betting on Embiid's knees ?" question, and a quite hard pass at that for me, but I stay with my point that I could see a Lauri addition helping with a better management of his physical condition.
 
The Clipper '28 unprotected FRP + McCain is a package that could *potentially* make a lot of sense for the Jazz. I'm a big McCain fan though. My son played against him in HS when he was at Corona Centennial. The kid's got a ton of personality off the court too. The Clipper FRP's are not in the same tier as the Lakers. That pick has potential to be high lottery.

Lauri+Key for PG+McCain+'28 Clips pick would at least be something for AA to strongly consider. McCain would have more opportunity in Utah where he's likely the 6th man in Philly behind Maxey/VJ. It was a really weak year for rookies but he likely wins ROY last season if he had stayed healthy.
 
I don't think Lauri has too much trade value right now. Tbh, I think DA fumbled the Lauri situation really badly and it's been a bad outcome for both parties. It's a clear case of when being a stubborn and greedy negotiator bites you in the ***.
 
I think DA fumbled Lauri, John Collins & Sexton. He held on to those assets thinking he was going to pull off a little magic. He got nothing of real value for Collins and Sexton.

I think that if we had gotten the #1 or 2 pick, we could have gone in to win now mode, in which case they would have been perfect.

I don’t buy it I can’t think of anyone who wants Paul George’s bad contract. Unfortunately I think DA dropped the ball with Lauri. He should’ve traded with the Warriors it was perfect timing. He played chicken and lost.
