Game Thread Oct 13, 2025 07:00PM MT: Dallas Mavericks @ Utah Jazz (Preseason)

Added to Calendar: 10-13-25

Taylor has near zero activity level in anything that isn't an offensive rebound. Same goes for a lot of Jazz players. Cody seems to have improved in that area though and that might carve him more minutes.

I hope Taylor's stuff is to do with his injury, because he might be the slowest player on the team with the ball on his hands. Takes so long to get to the rim off a closeout and has to halt a lot of momentum jumping off two every time

I'm trying very hard to give him at least until the all star break before saying anything negative. Him being on the court and getting reps in at this point is all positive.

Cody has improved his physical presence and confidence to the point that he isn't just overwhelmed. He obviously needs to work on his efficiency and decision-making.

Cody needs a Jalen Williams blood transfusion.

In a game full of disappointments there were some nice things going on:

Nurkic has a Kelly O impact. I'm pleasantly surprised with his preseason.

If Harkless can improve his offense that'd be nice. He's probably super useful in scrimmage though as he's such a solid defender and probably frustrates our guards to no end.

Taylor had a nice game - especially in the 2nd half. I know it's going to take some time for him to get acclimated again but this game was nice to see.

Or Cody just needs more time to develop. Jalen was still in college at this age.

The game was far from pretty, but It was still somewhat enjoyable seeing the young guys in their figure out what to do and don't. If the season plays out more like this (and less like Svi, Kyle and Love soaking up minutes regardless of how they play), then It could be more interesting to follow than previous ones

I remember his rookie year I legitimately thought he was a fast as any player in the league and running from one end of the court to the other. He was a gazelle. So light on his feet and incredibly fast as a straight line runner.
He looks to be lumbering at all times right now. I assume (hope) as his conditioning gets better he will lose a few pounds and get that speed back.

Lauri looked really stiff last night.
Not just stiff but also bad.
Hope that contract isn't a noose around our necks we have to wear for the duration of the contract. He looked really rough. It was also his first game this season so I shouldn't read too much into it.

Lauri was also matched up with AD.

I mean he was dominating in FIBA a couple of months ago. He will be fine.
