Pacers interest in Kessler- what do we want?

I think the logical time(s) to trade him have already passed. The org seems hellbent on competing ASAP, and you need competent rim protection to do that. Given that we have no competent rim protection without Kessler, that means it would take a hero offer to get him (if I were managing things).

Don’t negotiate. Listen to offers. If they offer something crazy do it, otherwise just don’t.

The less noise, the better. Walker is a keeper and this organization is pretty dumb for not extending him already.

It would be a really weird time to trade him since his injury fits our current agenda and his production/age fits our future agenda. They may just not want to pay him and I think they had a trade lined up before the season that did not pan out with the Lakers. I'm not sure what a team would give for him now with him out for the year but imagine you got like Mathurin and something and then Mathurin messes up the tank a little.

Let's say we are likely to sign and trade him this offseason or may not love the price. Is Indiana giving up a 2028 1st for him (unprotected). We already have too many picks in 2027 which is not looking like an amazing draft per experts so I wouldn't want that. Maybe you want 27 because Tyrese is not quite 100% then? IDK I think this is likely a rumor that is dead for now. May get reheated in the offseason if we do a sign and trade.

Pacers would absolutely give us their pick for Walker. They don't want to wait for their pick to get good with Haliburton/Siakim.

They might ask for some other stuff too, but I think it's possible to get a deal done.

Pacers want to retool with their '26 pick, along with Haliburton and Siakam. They're not going to give us their lottery pick.
So they want to wait on a rookie next to two ready to win now players? Doesn't seem likely. Wouldn't be straight up Walker for the pick, Jazz would have to add stuff.

This is actually kind of a no brainer for both sides. Think a deal could easily get done. Question is if either side wants to wait to see where the pick lands

I wouldn't be looking to trade Walker Kessler, but I've had the feeling for a while now that the Jazz FO/Hardy aren't in love with Kessler. It goes way beyond the non-extension this summer.

If the FO wants to move on from Kessler I think IND is as good of a landing spot as any, but it probably needs to happen before deadline. I think there's too much uncertainty around where IND could land in the lotto for it to happen.

Walker's low contract makes it super easy to get a deal done.

Jazz have a lot of picks to sweeten the pot. Svi would be a good player for the Pacers at his low contract. Filipowski or Hendricks could also be thrown in as rookie contract players who would have value for the Pacers.

Very interesting deal. If the Pacers believe in Walkers shooting they should think he's an upgrade to what Turner gave them when they took the Thunder to 7 games in the finals

I have a hard time thinking they'd give the '26 pick with zero protection. I understand the timeline with Haliburton / Siakam. But in terms of sheer exchange of value, Walker for a top 3 pick in this draft could be a disaster for them.

Asking for a friend - does the NBA ever do conditional trades? I.e., they give us the pick unprotected, but if it lands top X, we owe them Y?

The big question for the Pacers is what can they afford to pay Kessler. Grabbing him is risky given teams will have cap space. Jazz could theoretically throw him a huge offer sheet after trading him (maybe that's not legal idk).

Jazz would be giving more than just Kessler obviously.

It's a huge value risk for both sides of they deal now. The pick could be 1-2-3, huge value, or 4-8 and decidedly less value

We ain't getting Pacers FRP this year. Just forget about it. The ship sailed when Dumars foolishly gave it back to the Pacers a few months back. Should've offered him the 21st pick to outbid the Pacers.

So the Pacers don't want to compete? There is a deal there.

Kessler
Hendricks
Lakers 2027 pick
Suns 2031 pick

That would be a bit of a no brainer for the Pacers imo. It would be a big risk for Utah if the pick isn't top 3. Not sure I would do that deal as Utah due to the huge risk.
