This is pretty stunning (the timing, at least). Someone help me stop catastrophizing, cuz this looks pretty devastating to me.

Update: I guess Whit has been on record wanting to end after one more good season. Sounds like Morgan Scalley has it all-but sewn-up.

I saw this coming from a mile away.
In fact, he was gone last year if last season didn't go so bad. He wanted to go out on a high note.
Also, I think this is actually a good thing for Utah. The boosters wanted whitt gone and everyone (players included) love Scalley.
Scalley has been patiently waiting for the job for years and I hear that he was gonna bounce if whitt came back for another year.

Whittingham was a legend. For most of his tenure I wished he was BYU's coach (until we got Kalani. He might be my favorite coach in any sport of all time). He was a great coach. 177 wins iirc. Which makes Lavells 250 wins seem crazy. But that is obviously mostly due to longevity since Whitt and Lavell are very similar in wins per season. (whitt is like 8.6 wins per season and Lavell is like 8.8 wins per season)

Having said all that, im so happy he is gone. I had no hate towards Ron Mcbride. Then Urban came along and made the rivalry way more toxic. Whitt came after and followed in Urbans footsteps and continued to make the rivalry toxic.
Hopefully Scalley will be different and the temperature can come down a bit in regards to the rivalry. I know Kalani wont ever bad mouth Utah. Hopefully Scalley wont bad mouth BYU.

Was about to post something similar. Since I don't live in Utah I don't pay too close attention, but this was not surprising at all. I assumed it was happening, and had been set up for a few years.

Scalley officially awarded the head coaching job as expected.

As someone who follows neither football nor college sports, and so I only see this very peripherally, what is it about Sitake that makes you feel that way? I know when he first started there were a few disappointing seasons. They had a great year this year and it seems I’ve noticed more hype on social media and such. What are the areas he really excels in or characteristics that shape your assessment? (I’m not saying this with any negativity or doubt — I have the football understanding of a 5-year-old).

It's 100% because he is the nicest, best, most sincere and genuine good person I have ever seen.
Literally nothing to do with his coaching ability. I just love the man he is so much that he is my favorite to root for.

I wish he would run for POTUS

Now we all wait to see what coaches and players he brings with him.
BYU fans like myself are worried he might take our defensive coordinator for one.
Hopefully he doesn’t pull too much from either school. I’ll be only-happy if that’s the case (though wonder how smooth the transition there will be if he doesn’t take anyone he already has a relationship with him).

Whit is great Hopefully he can survive the incredibly high expectations Michigan will put on him
Michigan thinks they should be undefeated national champs every year
Anybody heard what his contract is
OK Just found it 5years 8 mil per
