2026 NBA Trade Discussion Thread

Wait… what?
I would prefer my high-scoring and efficient PG to be a 6’ 7”, tier one defensive talent. I also am not currently in love with anyone after #4. I view it as more of an asset after #4 than I do a pick to earnestly use at this point.

he's not high scoring or efficient though (15 ppg and well below average TS%).

still young and might get there, but the reality is he's not either of those things. tough to trade a guy who is already high scoring and efficient for a guy who is neither of those things, plus a high draft pick in a strong draft. also has an assist% of 19 to Key's 30. so not even close to the playmaker Key is.

Think I'd still prefer to just go with two rotation level players over a max for Watson, but my opinion on that could change depending on if Watson continues to play at a high level (and actually watch him) and if the Jazz get a top 3 pick

If the Jazz get an AJ or DP I really see no reason in maxing a perimeter player.
And I think the draft is obviously a question here. If we get one of those guys our planning changes. If we land outside the top 2 I think I just go hard at an offer for Watson. If you start around 40M and have it descend by 5% you are looking at 4/150M ish and by end of the deal it should be a decent value/bargain potentially. You can move stuff around as long as its valuable.

Just like Denver has to make choices here... but will likely get stuff if they move Braun or Johnson because they picked Watson. The key is simple that its not bad money. A guy like Watson is going to be pretty easy to move unless he has a horrible injury.

I didn’t say they were the same calibre offensively. Key is better offensively, Black and Key’s defense doesn’t belong in the same sentence. On the net, I take Black.

right, you said he was high scoring and efficient. he's not. forget the key comparison. compare him to league average and he's well below average efficiency and 15 ppg has never been considered "high scoring". if you like him better than key, that's fine, i just thought that comment needed to be called out because it simply isn't the case.

I think we've seen how important it is for Hardy's offense to have a big man like Nurk who can make plays consistently on both high and low post with his passing. Too bad Kess is out for the year so we can't really see his development on that end. I think this is much more important than his rebounding and shot blocking cuz we can find big men with those two attributes fairly easily at a much more affordable price. Kess would need to show his ability to pass the ball and set up for his teammates to justify his max status.
It is actually particularly difficult to find big men who can protect the rim and rebound like Kessler. It is just that rim protection isnt Sexy for the casuals and so it doesn't necessarily command a max. Rudy may be the best ever and maxing him was a mistake, but he wasn't easily replacable.

I choose to compare the player he’s become since getting unstuck from the bench. Maybe I’ll run the analysis but he’s been 20ppg and good assists on a team that shares playmaking duties while being a dog everywhere else for much of - but not all - of this season.

Maybe it’s a long fluke and doesn’t hold up to scouting. Assume it continues. Always assume that if a person is wanting to put a major offer for a player that the player they’re talking about is the better version of that player.

At a certain point, teams have to make decisions like whether it’s worth it to get 75% of the quality for 25% of the cost.

That’s kinda where I’m at with Kessler and what feels like a very likely chance he signs an offer sheet that’s >$30 million a year.

If the Jazz got #1 overall and Milwaukee/Giannis came to you and said Ace, #1, matching salary in the form of a Walker S&T and a first, and Giannis agreed to a long term extension, would you do it?
I think at this point I feel it's too late to give up lots for Giannis. He's still great, but he's getting older, and you'll be one serious injury away from a complete disaster of both a trade and a contract. I'd rather roll the dice.
