2026 NBA Trade Discussion Thread

What Giannis gets in trade is going to be a lot lower than you think. He will have a place or two in mind and if you aren't one of those places you aren't going to pony up a huge offer. If you are one of those places then why bid against yourself.
Its going to be a lot. Even if it is just two places, anyone that thinks they can get Giannis without sacrificing what would allow them to win now is going to do it if he's giving them assurances for long term commitment. Unless Giannis is extremely dedicated to one team and one team only, it will happen.

People said the same thing about Donovan and NYK, and Cleveland still managed to put in a huge offer. It's a an actual generational (and not the fake ones people try to label every other draft) player still playing at prime levels.

The only way a Giannis trade package isn't huge is if Milwaukee waits til the last possible moment and Giannis isn't willing to promise anyone anything and is just looking to go to UFA.

You don't have to do the Giannis trade til after you do your signings
If you do the non-incumbent free agency signings you then have less capspace to absorb Gianni’s’ $58 million. We wouldn’t need to S&T Walker to salary match because teams under the cap don’t have to match incoming salary (to the extent that they have cap space which the Jazz could have ~$54 million with Walkers caphold or $63 million after offloading Ace in the deal).

How I would approach this is hold off on signing Walker (since his caphold [$14m] will be less than his extension number [$25m at minimum]) and make the move and throw two ‘27 picks and some young players at the Bucks instead. You could get to a remaining cap amount somewhere in the teens of millions (depending on what young players you offload which might be enough for Ayo?). Then re-sign Walker.

Key/Ayo
Ayo/leftovers
Giannis/leftovers
Lauri/Giannis
Walker/Nurk?

That sounds good. Just get Giannis with Key and Lauri.

It will likely be 3-4 picks but its not gonna be a mega offer like you outlined. He will essentially be on a one year deal. Donny was on a 3 year deal. It was also a different environment. Part of it is which teams will be on the list, Knicks, Nets?, Heat?, GS? 3 of those teams are reluctant to put everything on the table or don't have a lot. The Nets package could be good with the NY picks but then what else do they have for him to play with?

Everybody crazy lol
