Not seeing how any of his shots were out of control last night at all.
Exactly. He was out of control with his aggression but last night he controlled it well. Exactly what he needed to do.

some semi-eloquent nonsense here. You start by dissolving any solid ground for comparing and arguing the performance of players, then slip in your own argument at the end. BTW, dude, Burks has been atrocious on defense a few times this season... certainly "hurting the team." I know that because I watched it happen.
He should, of course, be given the opportunity to play through these moments.
I think there is some merit in sitting a rookie down when he makes those mistakes. Sit him down and teach him that those things aren't going to happen if he wants playing time.
Hey zross - I'm going to the Ohio State Michigan Game today. Ohio State is obviously the better team - more size and athleticism, but you never know. Hoping for a competitive game and a chance to keep the winning streak at Crisler going.
this would be an especially meaningful comment from you if I was arguing that he should play 100% of the minutes on the floor until he got his **** worked out. That would be ****ing ridiculous, though, right? I mean, part of learning is sitting, part of learning is playing. Glad we got that worked out.
Maybe you should become a professional coach since you know so much more about developing young guys than Tyrone Corbin.
I guess so... i mean, apparently I've transcended the single greatest problem of them all: development comes from both sitting and watching as well as playing through rough spots. KAPOW!!! championship.
You should send in this thread and the rest of your resume to the Washington Wizards. I can tell they need a new coach.
At the beginning of the season, Alec was pretty lost out there, and had a very "me-first" oriented shot selection. Corbin's done a good job keeping Alec from chucking, but he was still looking lost on offense. They played very unique offensive system in Colorado. His benching is probably due to his inability to really work properly in a more traditional system. Now that he's had more time and practices under his belt, he's getting more minutes, and making the best of them. We need to get rid of one of Hayward, Miles, Howard, or Bell before he can get more consistent minutes.

Wait, so you're saying taking dumb shots is an asset now? You want Burks to be the next CJ Miles? He's already on his way, he shoots as often as CJ Miles (on a per-minute basis), gets to the line as often as CJ Miles, although he shoots a lower percentage from both the field and the stripe as CJ Miles... the only thing he does better than Miles is rebound. If he keeps getting minutes and plays the same way he's playing now, it's only a matter of time before the Can the Alec Burks experiment please end? thread starts. I'd rather Burks learn better shot selection and keep the circus shots as a last resort, not a first resort as they seem to be now. Miles never got this - hopefully Burks will. His ability to drive, contort his body, and get off some crazy shots is very wade-esk. Not to mention how often he initiates contact and gets to the FT line. Very "Flash" like. Hopefully he keeps getting minutes.
No you're not. Burks also gets less assists/minute than Miles - a damning indictment as Miles gets assists at the same rate as Jefferson. Also, almost half of Burks assists this season came in the one game - he had 2 on Opening night against the Lakers, then 6 against Milwaukee on Jan 6, only 5 since, a total of 13 for the season. And JazzFanz complain about Big Al being a black hole! Again, something where Miles has always been deficient, and we just have to hope that Burks doesn't follow his path.Am i the only one who is worried about his asist ratio?
Whoa there with the all-star talk - it's just one good scoring game against one of the worst teams in the league, who had already conceded defeat about halfway through warm-ups. Let's see him play a few good games in a row against decent teams where he makes good shot choices, passes the ball some, and plays some defence, so he actually earns minutes for playing well rather than just for development purposes, before we even start talking about him as a rotation regular. Because his defence is terrible - he gets wiped out on screens every time and gets lost on defensive rotations. The ineptitude of the Wizards may have hidden this flaw for one game, but he has a long way to go before he stops being a defensive liability.Burks has all star potential. His ability to go left or right, shoot left or right has been amazing.
I'm not too worried about his passing. That'll come...hopefully we'll see him do it more especially to Favors.
His defense is also real good. I'm glad he's learning from Bell and not CJ.

Alec Burks has, for the members of Jazzfanz, all the intangibles to become the most hated Jazz player.

Then why is he hitting a mere 42.5% of his two-point shots? Only Howard and Tinsley are worse. CJ's penchant for taking and missing long-range jumpers explains why he only hits 43.9% of his two-pointers, but Burks takes fewer jumpers (at least, that's the perception), yet still hits at a lesser rate. No, because he's not really chucking. He looks to drive to the basket for the most part. It's not like Miles who will bump off a screen and take a 25 foot jumper.

The answer is he is driving when there is no driving lane and compounding the error by taking high degree-of-difficulty shots when he gets to the cup, rather than dishing off. There is no difference between Miles' ill-advised chucks and Burks' MLAs in terms of decision-making, or in terms of results, even if he does manage to draw fouls - he should still be converting at better than 42.5% when he isn't fouled if the majority of his shots are at the rim.
