A lot of Dukies had a reputation for being premier college players and then then disappointing in the NBA, with poster-child examples being Christian Laetner and Danny Ferry way back when. Then when Grant Hill got injured, people were calling it a curse.

Irving looks for-real though. He just needs some players to play with.

Christian Laettner averaged around 17 and 8 during his prime (roughly 6 or 7 years I think), while it wasn't what people expected from him...I wouldn't call it disappointing by any means.

Really? I think he went 3rd in the draft behind Shaq and Alonzo Mourning, but if he did 17/8 for several years, that's not bad.

I hadn't remembered him as that good of a player - probably because he played in Minn and then Atlanta. It was actually in his sixth year he started to really tail off. Then, after his trade to Detroit, his numbers are pretty pedestrian. But 18/9 as a rookie ain't bad. Of course he played 4 years at Duke. I really wish we didn't have the 1 and done players. It hurts the quality of NBA basketball.
