Brewer, Shannon Brown, etc...Meh. Go get Danny Granger.

Assuming we have some draft considerations to part with after the Al J acquisition, I really think is doable.

Let's face it, we suck on the wing. CJ, in my eyes, is more of a starter-by-default. He's yet to be a consistently solid player over the course of a whole season. AK is more of a true power forward...I'm steadfast in my belief that he's the best PF on the team. Hayward? Who knows. Brewer, Korver, Wes? All gone. Shannon Brown? Could be really nice...but does he want to play in Utah? Evans? likely to spend plenty of time in Orem.

I think there is some merit to the notion that Granger is available. They're not a great team, he's the one guy on the hook for big $ long-term, they're set to have HUGE cap room next year, and they drafted Brandon Rush last year and Paul George this year.

Trade scenario #1

Utah Trades:
Paul Millsap (7.6M)
Gordon Hayward (2.4M)
Kousof (filler)
+ draft considerations?

Indy Trades:
Danny Granger (11M)

Why Utah does it:
a.) Duh. We get an absolute stud on the wing. Granger does it ALL...great athlete, defends, can handle/create his own shot, great shooter, can get out and run. He's exactly what we would need...all the tools, can fit a "role" seamlessly but still be relied on as a go-to guy in tight spots.
b.) It slots AK back in his natural 4-spot. I LOVE this. Plus, with his shooting ability, Memo could absolutely play spot 4-duty for us this season.

Why Utah DOESN'T do it:
a.) Leaves us a little thin up-front, especially if Memo isn't ready by the start of the season. If Al got hurt, we would sorely miss Millsap. In this scenario, I definitely see us bringing back Fes + picking up some kind of UFA and stashing him on IR/in the D-League.
b.) Losing Hayward still leaves us thin on the wing, if not more talented. We'd have to look to add Brewer really cheap or go get more UFA minimum guys a la Wes Matthews this past year.

Why Indy does it:
a.) They get good value in Millsap. Productive, bargain PF. They're jammed at PF with Sap, but remember that a.) Tyler H is a big injury concern with his shin and b.) Murphy is an $11M expiring contract. Will he be back?
b.) I really hope that Bird did like Hayward a lot.

Jazz line-up:
PG: Williams, Price
SG: Granger, (______) maybe Brewer cheap? Some minimum guy.
SF: CJ, AK, Evans
PF: AK, Memo, Evans
C: Jefferson, Memo, Fes

Trade 2: Trade Andrei Kirilenko

Utah Trades:
AK ($17.6M)
+ potential draft considerations

Indy Trades:
Granger ($11M)
Jeff Foster ($6.6M)

Why Utah does it:
a.) again, Granger.
b.) Keeps us stacked in the frontcourt, added wing depth by NOT trading Hayward

Why Utah DOESN'T do it:
a.) Kirilenko is a very dynamic player. I'm not sure we're not better off keeping him long-term at the 4-spot at about half of his current salary. Remember him at the 4 in the pre-Boozer days? Just a terror in the paint!
b.) What kind of draft considerations will we have after acquiring Jefferson?

Why Indy does it:
a.) AK is a huge expiring contract. With him, they'd have close to $50M coming off the books after this season. They could make a HUGE free agency splash. They should have an eye towards the future, the team as constructed will not seriously compete for anything.

Jazz line-up:
PG: Williams, Price, Gaines?
SG: Granger, Hayward, UFA?
SF: CJ, Hayward, Evans
PF: Millsap, Memo, Evans
C: Jefferson, Memo, Koufos

Hot damn ladies and gentlemen I'd say that either of those potential line-ups would be thebomb.com. Cocked, locked, and ready to rock out West where none of the other contenders has gone out and gotten substantially better. I REALLY think we'd have, at worst, a puncher's chance in a series against Los Angeles.

Shock me silly, KOC make this happen!

I think most people hate LBJ now. But put him in a Jazz uni and I would do backflips.

But seriously, NO feedback on the actual proposed trades? Does anyone have a serious response to why Indy wouldn't at least CONSIDER Kirilenko + draft picks or Millsap + Hayward + draft picks if they DON'T look at Granger as a long-term fixture? In my eyes, it makes a lot of sense. It's not as if these salary-dump trades really are "too good to be true" - they do happen, plus Indy is getting at least SOME value.

1) we're probably losing out 'draft considerations' w/ the Jefferson trade
2) Larry Bird just hung up... Why can rebuild next summer, why trade away their best (Top 15) player?

Getting Danny Granger is my number one fantasy as a Jazz fan. But I don't think there's any way the Pacers give him up unless it's a deal they can't refuse. A deal they wouldn't be able to refuse, in my eyes, would bring them both a point guard and a power forward, with one of those -- most likely the point guard -- being a minor star of near Granger's stature.

Granger's availability has been overstated, I think. For example, both of the trade rumors that involved Granger in the past year have been a bit of bunk. Remember the Granger for Al Jefferson rumor? It was simply an offer that was made -- that Bird is said to have not even considered. Bird has also said that the Devin Harris rumors were overstated, saying that Danny Granger is a great young player who a lot of teams have interest in, and it would take a lot for another team to get him.

Presently, he's the only thing keeping the team in Indiana. He is their franchise. His contract is one of the best values in the NBA. There is no reason for Indiana to deal him unless it's a deal that meets their needs and puts them into the playoffs.

They are in the third year of an oft-stated three-year rebuilding plan. All of the bad contracts they have been so patient with are coming off the books at the end of this season. They've been patient, and now that they're finally in a position to do something positive -- even if that's just letting those contracts expire so they can pursue some great free agents -- I see them sticking it out.
