Is Jeremy Evans About To Go Up in Smoke?

Then he's not an NBA player because there's an even smaller chance of that happening. Not everyone can look like Arnold and I'm continually shocked that so many people don't understand that.

not arnold... but c'mon, the guy can't continue to look like a beanpole. there are a lot of different body types for NBA 4s, but none of them look like that. it's not unrealistic that he could develop a bit of a body, like a stromile swift type of build, but still retain his athleticism and use his length and new-found muscle to compete better in the paint.

At least he isn't crying like Bell. I think he is a stud and we are wasting his talent hope he finds some where to play and thrive. LOB city maybe?

I think Evans will be given another year. It's too bad they don't have the depth to just shut him down right now and tell him to start lifting for next year.

He has been a decent (and, sparingly, even 'good') team defender.

jazz give up 112 points per 100 possessions with evans on the floor. only tinsley has a worse impact on the team defense (115 pp100). so i think when you say team defense, it's just a nice way of saying, "he can't stay in front of ron boone or body up against a light canyon breeze, but he occasionally gets a help-side block."

on the other end, he's no better. jazz only score 100 per 100 with evans out there, tied for team-worst with kanter.

so i'm sorry, i'm just not feeling bad for the kid. he's got talent, he's athletic as all hell, and he's a great kid... but he isn't ready to help the jazz win games.

Can't believe you are seriously trying to divulge anything from 3 minutes a game. Comical at best.

I think the nerd's point was that Evans does not always do something positive when he's on the court as many people seem to think. Or the numbers don't support that notion from a team perspective at least.

3 minutes a game is his average. look at his game-by-game stats and you'll see plenty of nights when he was on the floor long enough to have an impact, positive or negative. more often than not, that impact is negative. he has one offensive skill (dunking), and one defensive skill (help-side blocks). other than that, it's 4-on-5 when he's out there.

but here's the bigger problem with your 3-minutes snideness... this is the NB-freaking-A, and you don't have time to wait for a guy to get comfortable. if a guy comes to the court and needs longer than 3 minutes to contribute to the game, he shouldn't be out there. you hear guys talking all the time about how their job is to be ready when their number is called so that the team isn't waiting on them to GET ready. jeremy isn't ready, so i'm not going to excuse him based on a low mpg average. his mpg average would be higher if he were ready to have a positive impact on the game when he stepped out there.

look at the @LAL game. that's a game where we NEEDED jeremy cuz our big man rotation was short. so he got seven minutes to do something, and ya know what he did? 0 points, 0 rebounds, 0 assists, 0-for-1 from the floor. that's the last time he got non-garbage time minutes, because it was so painful to watch him not contribute.

you can't give guys minutes they didn't earn, that destroys the culture of a team -- jeremy just hasn't earned more than his 153 minutes yet.

A guy catches a few oops against the other teams scrubs and has a few weak side blocks and all of his other deficiencies are thrown out the window. The fact of the matter is that he can't guard anyone 1 on 1 because of his lack of strength, and he can't do anything other than dunk. While he seems like a nice guy, and I would love to keep him as our 12th man, when he isn't on the Jazz anymore the team will be no better and no worse than it was with him. He made a couple million, he might even get a new contract, good for him, I'm sure he will be happy as hell no matter where he lands. He isn't getting the short end of the stick, he is just happy to be in the NBA.

Far from true. Evans hit 18 of 36 on his jumpers last year, which is an elite, and Hayward has said as much that he even beats him at 3 point contests in practice. He has missed most of his jumpers this year (1-8), but think we can chalk that up to only playing once in a blue moon. You will get to see plenty of what Evans can do next year, when he is more "safely" under contract.

i hope you're right, cuz i want the jazz to be good and i like jeremy as a person... but i'm pretty sure you're wrong. guy is a LOOOOOONG way off from being able to contribute in meaningful minute.

While very limited. The minutes Evans has played he has not shown to have any of those skills. His passes are worse than Kanter (who's a rookie), His ball handling ability is worse than everybody on the roster not named Kanter (who may be better as well), And his shot has been non-existant (if he had one why won't he even try and take one).

For some strange reason Corbin tells him not to shoot at all I know this for a fact myself. Why I do not know because Evans can shoot the ball. I've seen him hit several in college. So he is not being given a chance to show that he can shoot. Thank your coach for when he leaves.
