Spanking?

Just curious as to people opinions on spanking their kids. My sister is completely 100% against the idea, she says her kids don't even know what a spanking is. Her kids are also giant pains in the ***. So is my sisters little brother, he is 7, the accident if you will, he is literally the worst kid I have ever been around in my life. He gets probably 10 to 15 verbal warnings before they just give up and let him do whatever they were trying to stop him from doing. I know a decent amount of kids that have never been spanked and every single one of them is a little ****.

I was spanked maybe 3 or 4 times in my life, after those few times I realized that if I didn't behave it was a definite possibility. I have spanked my daughter who is 2 and a half maybe twice, very very lightly. Now when I tell her to stop doing something after the 3rd time I ask her if she wants a spanking, she decides she will listen all of the sudden.

I have seen parents cross the line when it comes to spanking, like really hitting them hard, or using belts or spoons, but a little smack on the *** to let them know you aren't going to be pushed around is necessary sometimes.

I'm sure there are kids who haven't ever been spanked who are just fine, I just haven't met them. Anyways not here to judge, just curious as to what you guys opinions are on the matter.

That's the type of parenting that drives my wife and me crazy. Even if they don't believe in spanking, they need to do SOME sort of physical intervention--tap the kid on the shoulder, or physically move him, or something along those lines.

I probably spanked each one of my kids (now 12 and 15) five or less times each. I don't regret spanking them... but there were a couple of times (maybe once or twice each) when I recall spanking pretty hard due to my own frustrations, and those times I do regret. A spanking doesn't have to be hard to be effective. Also, as I said above, there are plenty of ways to intervene physically without actually spanking--and those are just as effective, imho.

I'm gonna spank the crap out of my kids. My dad broke a wooden spoon on my ***, in return, I decided to listen to him more. It works.

It has its place. I agree with PKM on them having to know why it is happening and refraining from doing it in anger.

You'd all spank for this:

Ah, given the choice between a hippie bum or an aggressive and paranoid airhead, I choose the former.

What about a pretentious narcissist ? I bet Jordan Van Der Sloot was never spanked.

My pretentious narcissism is a direct result of being spanked. I realized my *** looked best when red.

but didn't you assume that, if looked great when red, that you must have been positively responsible for it being so .. as a narcissist?

Exactly. I kinda shook my head at that one, siro.

It was a sarcastic characterization of the outlook expressed in this thread. Clearly there is more to being a good person than the amount of spanking you received as a child.

Wait. You weren't serious?

You said you shook your head at it. That means you thought I was serious, so I explained. But if your shaking your head was a sarcastic response to Haunters non sarcastic explanation of what you understood as a sarcastic comment, then my explanation was redundant. Unless, of course, your latest comment was not sarcastic, at which point I will assume my explanation needs further non sarcastic elaboration. I hope we're all on the same page.
