What's new

So, I made an Al Jefferson trade to every team in the league.

It was on RealGM. You can view it at
https://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1179981

I hesitate to post it here because a good percentage of the deals are bad for the Jazz, deals I wouldn't make. But, my intent was not to create a list of deals that I would do, but, to see what I felt each team in the league might offer the Jazz based on their situation. I'm sure most Jazz fans will want to burn me in effigy after reading the list as the best players I had coming back in any deal was James Harden and John Wall, and those deals seemed too sweet for the Jazz by the posters on RealGM.

But, I thought it was a useful exercise to try and get a feel for what offers KOC might be seeing, what might be out there for the Jazz. Take it with a grain of salt. I'll post the list below.

Al
for
Marvin Williams
Zaza
2 future 1sts (top 3 protected)

Why for Utah: Frees up mintues for Kanter/Favors/Millsap adds a solid 3 in Williams and a solid backup 5 in Zaza and two future late 1sts.

Why for Atl: Fills the hole at center with Jefferson. Gets teh best player in the deal. Shaves a year off William's salary.

----------------

Al
2013 Jazz 1st (top 3 protected)
for
Pierce

Why for Ut: Gets a reliable scorer from the wing.

Why for Boston: Gets bigger and younger. Brings back a well loved player. Adds a mid 1st.

---------------

Al
Bell
for
Maggette
Augustin S&T (about 7mil per for 3 years)

Why for Utah: Brings in a young PG.
Why for Bobs: Brings in a low post scorer who will fit terrific next ot Biyombo. Also frees up minutes for Walker.

---------------

Al
Bell
for
Boozer
Butler
2 future 1st (top 3 protected)

Why for Utah: Utah takes on Boozer's extra two years for the two firsts and the chance ot see how Butler looks in a Jazz uni.

Why for Chicago: They wanted a low post player to run next to Noah. Boozer never really was a low post threat, more of a PnR guy. But, jefferson is a low post threat and Noah can cover his mistakes on the other end. Heck, he's probably a better defender than Boozer anyway.

--------------

Al
for
Vareajao
Boobie

Whhy for Jazz: Saves a little cash and turns one player into two useful rotation guys.

Why for Cavs: Gets them some scoring and a little younger.

---------------

Jazz trade
Al
Bell
Harris
(TPE)
for
Stuckey (TPE)
Charlie V
Ben Gordon
Prince
2012 1st

This is two separate deals

Why for Utah: 2012 1st should be a decent player. But, Jazz also bring in a few veterans to shore up the team. Stuckey, Gordon, and Prince would all see significant minutes.
Whhy for Detroit: Massive, massive, massive salary dump. Plus Jefferson and Harris keep the team competitive.

---------------------

Al
for
Cap space
and
Bell
for
Collison
Pendergraph

Why for Utah: Salary dump and adds young PG.
Why for Indy: Jefferson makes their big rotation one of the best in the league, cost is only cap room and a PG who lost his job to Hill.

-----------------

Al
for
Haslem
Battier
Anthony
Cole
2 future 1sts

Why for Utah: Utah takes the PooPoo platter for Jefferson.
Why for Miami: They get their big 4. Jefferson gives them a center that can carry some scoring load.

--------------------

AL
Bell
for
Monta
Gooden

Why for UT: Helps balance the roster.
Why for Bucks: The whole Monta experiment has been a failure. Pretty huge salary dump.

--------------------

Al
Bell
for
Amare
future 1st

Why for Utah: Really just in it for the 1st, but maybe Amare would fit in well in Utah.
Why for NY: Huge salary dump. Jefferson will give them about what Amare did, only moreso.

----------------

Al
for
Hedo
Harper
3 future 1sts (unprotected)

Why for Utah: Just in it for the 1sts.
Why for Orlando: A move to convince Dwight to stay. Huge salary dump.

---------------

AL
GS 1st
for
Iggy

Why for Utah: Helps balance roster.
Why for Philly: Helps balance roster, probable lotto pick, salary dump.

---------------

Al
Harris
for
Bargs
Calderon

Why for Utah: Just a new look.
Why for Toronto: Salary dump. New look.

---------------

AL
Millsap
Harris
GS 1st
for
Wall
Blatche
Lewis

Why for UT: Gets the PGotF in Wall.
Why for Bucks: Gets teh core of a WC playoff squad along with a likely lotto pick.

---------------

AL
for
Odom
Boubois
Wright
Jones

Why for Utah: Some intriguing young guys there in Boubois and Wright. Maybe Odom can get his head on straight in Utah.
Why for Dallas: Dallas decides defense is over-rated. Instead they are just going to outscore you every night. It's gonna be hard for opposing teams to defend both Dirk and Jefferson.

AL
for
Chander
Mozgov
Brewer

Why for Utah: Balances lineup
Why for Denver: Jefferson and McGee is a pretty freaking interesting combo.

-----------------

Al
for
Beans
(one of their 2nd round picks who is signed, need the 400k to match)
Protection on 2012 pick waived.

Why for Utah: Gets that 2012 lotto pick.
Why for GS: Gets out of Bean's contract and builds a 3 man big rotation of Lee, Jefferson, and Bogut.

----------------

Al
GS 1st
2013 Utah 1st (unprotected)
for
Kevin Martin
Kyle Lowry

Why for Utah: Nice lineup.
Why for Houston: 2 potential good picks plus Jefferson has got to be tempting, more value trade than fit, but, with Dragic and Lee ready to take over teh fit isn't bad either.

----------------

AL
for
Mo
Gomes
Bledsoe

Why for Utah: Adds a couple PGs to the team.
Why for Clips: Completes a nice big rotation of Griffin, Jordan, and Jefferson.

------------------

Jefferson
Bell
for
Peace
Blake
McBob
3 future 1sts
3mil

Why for Utah: Not a lot of reason here, but, trying to do every team. Would look to buyout Artest, maybe flip Blake for an expiring contract and hope McRoberts and the 3 firsts makes it worthwhile.
Why for LAL: Just a no brainer move IMHO. Get by far the best talent in the deal.

---------------

AL
for
Mayo (S&T about 6mil per for 3 years)
Cunningham
Pargo
Poindexter
Selby
future 1st

Why for Utah: Mayo and a 1st.
Why for Memphis: Get a guy like Jefferson for almost nothing.

-------------

Jefferson
for
Webster
Miller
Ellington
2012 1st (#18)
2013 1st (lotto protected)

Why for Utah: 2 firsts, Webster and Ellington can probably see minutes.
Why for Minny: They just can't live without Jefferson. Been begging to get him back since they traded him.

------------------

Jefferson
Harris
2013 Utah 1st (top 3 protected)
for
Okafor
Jack
Ayon (need about 1.2 min in matching salary here, not sure how important Ayon is to the team, could be substituted out if needed for other matching salary)

Why for Utah: I'd like to see what Jack could do in Utah.
Why for NO: A new look plus a draft pick.

-------------

Jefferson
Burks
for
Harden (S&T or after extention to big deal)
Matching salary

Why for UT: get a star SG.
Why for OKC: Get a near star C along with a promising young SG in Burks.

--------------

Jefferson
2013 Utah 1st (unprotected)
for
Nash (SnT starting around 12 mil for 3 years)

Why for Utah: Get Nash.
Why for PHo: Get younger and a tempting 1st.

---------------

Jefferson
for
Crawford
Matthews

Why for utah: Balances the roster
Why for Portland: Gets best player.

----------------

Jefferson
for
Garcia
Freddette
2016 1st (lotto protected)

Why for Utah: Lots of Utah fans have a mancrush on Jimmer. (not me) Get a heavily protected future first that might someday be worth something.
Why for Sac: Get the best player in the deal.

------------------

Jefferson
for
SJax
Neal
Leonard

Why for Utah: Neal and Leonard look good in San Antonio, not sure how they'd look playing for Corbin though...
Why for SAS: Twin towers baby!

I saw this thread on the RealGM board. Nice work. Do you think you could pull out the 5 most likely scenarios based on feedback other teams' fans gave you and what you think the Jazz might do? *rep*

I stopped when I read the Chicago trade. I cannot believe you would want to bring back Boozer for another 3 years. The Chicago fans would jump all over that trade.

I'm not a trade scenario junkie and I stay out of them mostly but repped because that probably took soem work.

The only one of those trades I could see both teams doing is Al to Portland for Crawford and Matthews.

This is completely unrealistic in the real world, but for anyone who plays NBA 2K12: You can trade Al Jefferson for Deron Williams straight up, and he WILL resign with you (maybe... probably not). Thought that was funny, though. Don't think he (Jefferson) is anywhere near as valuable as Deron.

Ya don't think? You don't think.

I liked the Atlanta trade and the Orland trade if you subbed in Redick. We could use him for the outside shot. Come to think of it however, didn't they just sign him to a fairly big contract. (I'm too lazy to go look)

Pretty funny on the main page (well, untill I posted this) it says the thread title So, I made an Al Jefferson trade to every team in the league. just because (as the most recent poster (above this one).

I'd be lying if I didn't say I was intrigued with the Al+Harris for Bargs+Calderon. Bargs was injured at the end of last year, but he came out on fire at the beginning of the year until injuries added up and he was finally shut down. If he had only two years on his deal, I'd be all for it, but 3 more years would probably be a deal breaker for me.

Edit: and the more I think about it, this sounds like I have a "grass is greener on the other side" type mindsets.

The Toronto trade was one that was received somewhat positively by fans of the other team.

I was a bit surprised that a Denver fan wanted Al.

I thought Atlanta and Milwaukee were receptive too. Detroit was luke warm.

But yeah, Bargs would remind us of the Okur days.

I'm sure Detroit's GM would appreciate teh offer more than a fan. No fan likes an offer were the value comes in financial relief. Take a look at the Harpring and Maynor trades for evidence of that. But, in the world of GMing sometimes money is a huge deal.

Not when it's Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva vastly overpaid contracts. Maynor and Harping were rookie and veteran contracts respectively, not a big deal in terms of cap but definitely helped with luxury tax. Vilaneuva and Gordon have been overpaid since 09 and it would clear the Pistons of 21 million in cap space enough for a max deal. So yeah I'm pretty sure Pistons fans would like this deal..

Well, you'd be mistaken. Check the link at teh top of the OP to read through and see some Detroit responses.
