Utah Jazz vs OKC

Well the bright side is that in 2 years they probably won't have at least one of Westbrook, Harden, and Ibaka.

I don't think we are overrating KD. The guy has led the league in scoring 3 years in a row. He is arguable a top 3 player in the world. I think most knowledgable fans know that basketball is a team sport and OKC has an excellent team. I mentioned how they have two other players that are better than anyone on the Jazz. Throw in Perkins and Ibaka and there other good role players and you have a championship team. One of the main reason why I wanted the Jazz to miss the playoffs is because I still think the Jazz need to get more talent to compete against teams like OKC.

The last 2 or 3 games Durant has closed **** down in the 4th quarter and just dominated. His main problem is that sometimes he lacks the aggressiveness throughout the game, but he usually comes to play in the 4th.

There are very few KD's in the world. The Jazz have never had anyone like him yet and I doubt anyone on the roster has a prayer at his ability. The joke about people saying build like OKC did is that it means you have to find a KD. That is very rare.

Repped....

It's not like the NBA is a candy store with plenty to choose from. KD's don't grow on trees

Yeah, the Jazz will probably never find a Michael Jordan, either. They should just give up on trying to find better players, cuz that's too hard. I think we should all just thank our lucky stars to be fortunate enough to recieve our asskickings by the Spurs, and keep things in perspective. We're never going to find a Player like Malone at #13 or John Stockton at #16. Those things just never happen, so we shouldn't even try.

Not to mention lucky. Durant almost wound up in Portland instead. No one would be talking about the great job the Thunder did in building their team if they had been left Odom instead of Durant.

Nobody's saying the Jazz or every other team shouldn't try to find a superstar. They're just saying it's hard and requires a lot of luck, which is why you can't just copy the Thunder model of building a great team.

I've been around long enough to know exactly what kind of arguments Thee Jazz Fan makes. Perhaps you should speak for yourself. It's true that we're not likely to find a player on KD's level, but that's not a legitimate argument for not trying like hell to find the best players we can through the draft. As for luck, you can't win it if you're not in it, and the luckiest people in the world are the ones who make their own.

As much as I enjoyed the push for the playoffs, I sure wish we would have just tanked that last game vs. Golden State.

1 loss to Golden State = Losing mentality for all of eternity...we would never win another single game

4 losses to the Spurs = Profound learning experience....multiple championships, here we come

Haven't posted for a few years ... but. can't. keep. fingers. from. keyboard. The Jazz could have the exact same players and go nowhere. Can you imagine Harden taking that three last night in the Jazz system? Players, coach and system win championships. Spurs have all three. Thunder have 2.5. Sloan wanted "makers" instead of "shooters." Shooters don't "make" when the yellow light is always glaring through the backboard.

1 missed draft pick = an eternity of crying from crybabies.

That single draft pick is what the Jazz needed to get a superstar and win multiple championships. Because of that one missed pick they will never have even a remote shot to win it all again. They might as well fold their tents and hold a fire sale

I agree with Urban Meyer's take on luck:

"There is no such thing as luck. There are opportunities in life, the question is if you are prepared to take advantage of them when they arise."

Wondering what "profound" lesson we learned? I am not sure in the long run that series made any real difference to our young players... let alone a "profound" impact.

Yeah, for the simple-minded, I guess it seems like a single draft pick.

In reality, it was two lotto picks, and more importantly, the decision in regards to sticking with the current roster and trying to build on it, or instead deciding to take another direction. The trade KOC pulled off for Deron put us in a position to build a team that had a serious chance at playing for a championship. You'll have to excuse me if I'm a little disappointed that our FO didn't take full advantage of that, and instead chose to play for a ****ing 8th seed with a roster that is never getting past the first round. But hey, at least we got some experience for a bunch of players, the majority of which, won't even be on this team in a few years. Awesome.

I can understand people wanting to make the playoffs, but now that it is clear beyond a shadow of a doubt where this team stands talent-wise in comparison to teams like the Spurs and Thunder, it's a crying shame that nobody has the balls to admit that making the playoffs might not have been in our best interest. No worries, though, time will likely provide many opportunities to do so. I'll be keeping track of who will be the first to find their nads and admit they were wrong, and who sticks to their guns and remains nadless.

P.S. Go to hell.:p

If trades and signings were made with the goal of opening up playing time to develop young players, it could have been 3 or 4 lotto picks.

If we get those two lotto picks this year, we don't get them next year. Who knows, maybe next year we will make some awesome pick with the GS pick and that pick will go down as one of the best Jazz players in history (or maybe we will trade both the picks to move up in the draft, get BJ Young, who is a more talented/higher potential version of Damian Lillard (who is the guy most people want here)). It doesn't really matter and what's done is done. No use in crying over it. I had fun in our limited playoff run even though it was extremely painful and embarrassing.

I agree with the spirit of this post. My big problem with this year is not making the playoffs vs the lottery pick, but the players that were used to get to the end result. We essentially wasted a year. Could you imagine the hype around this team if Jefferson wasn't on the team, but Favors, Millsap and Hayward led us to the playoffs?

We had that superstar in Dwill but couldn't build around him. Just thinking of Dwill with Favors makes me......well....nevermind
