Hayward the TOP ROOKIE in summer league

Seems like all new Jazz players have impressive work ethics. I'd rather have an average player who works and works until he is above average (like Matthews), than a lazy bum with loads of potential that will never be realized (Fesenko).
Well, we're also talking lottery pick vs. mid-2nd round.

But isn't that a complaint of a lot of people on this board (including myself)? We have too many guys who "work hard" and not enough guys who can be great players due to their superior skills and potential. Hopefully Hayward has both desire and skills. And the same can be said of Jefferson. Maybe he's ready to really elevate his game now that he'll be in a winning environment surrounded by players like Deron, Millsap and Bell who don't accept losing (not to mention Jerry).

While it is debatable Hayward was the top rookie this summer, he id definitely up there. Think about it: he only played 21 mins per game, knocked down nearly every shot he took en route to 11 points, got to the line whenever he wanted, made FTs, and also filled the stat sheet across the board, including nearly a block per game. Some of the folks on here keep bringing up Paul George and some other guys, but get this: George's FG % is about HALF of that of Hayward in the summer League. Sure, George played significantly more minutes and got more points, but at 33% from the floor and 11 (!!!)% from the 3, he was being a liability out there. Hayward also clearly outplayed #2 overall pick Turner. Some people bring up Monroe, who had a good summer League, but Hayward shot the ball from SF spot at 10% higher clip than Monroe and blocked double the shots C Monroe actually blocked. When I look at pretty much every rookie in the summer League, no one has such a clean all around excellent numbers, considering the minutes played, as Hayward does. Yes, it is a summer League. But that's all we have so far, and good to know our pick has done as good as anyone so far, or better.

...although some white guys have won the Mr. Universe contest over black guys!!! But your point is well taken.

Why do you even watch basketball when you are clearly a racist? Thats like a black panther watching hockey. Of course being in carolina you were probally raised as a racist so its prob only half ur fault. Neva to late to change craker

Haywood did nice but both wall and cousins were clearly alot better. Jones from dallas didnt do to shabby, Also luke babbit put up nice numbers

What an idiotic post. Yes, all of us born in "Carolina" are bred to be racists. Also what the hell is a "craker"?

You don't know the history of CJ here on the board. Im sure there are great people in Carolina. Sure of it. That said, CJ is completely a bigot.

Oh, I know about him. Been reading the board since probably 2004. Just when Colorado tries to call the whole state of Carolina (this is a joke of course. I never say I am from Carolina and nobody from South or North Carolina says that either) racist I get a little agitated. Back to the thread though Cousins did have some bad games, but these guys were top 5 picks. Turner and Favors were worse than Haywood for what it is worth.

I agree Babbit but up nice numbers, but that's why Hayward's accomplishments are more impressive: Gordon't numbers still dwarf that of Babbit. While Babbit's 3 point shooting is only slightly below Hayward's, his shooting from the floor is nearly 20% worse. Babbit did score 3 more ppg, but played 50% more minutes and needed tons more shots. So, yes, Babbit's numbers are nice, but just not comparable to Haywards. Same thing about Jones. Yes, some numbers are comparable when adjusted per minute, but 42% from the floor is 20% worse than that of Hayward. It's a huge difference, which puts Hayward well ahead. As far as Cousins he shot the ball very poorly. 33% (1/2 of Haywards FG) is very poor for anyone, especially a C. Cousins had 5-18, 3-15, 1-12 as his last 3 outings. And 5 TO/game throughout the tournament. If Hayward had these numbers, people would already proclaim him a bust. So, these 3 guys certainly did not have a better summer than Hayward.

Wall really scored and passed well, and certainly argument can be made for him as being the best. With that said, his Achilles heal was shooting %. 38% is low, and 5 TO/game is high. But ... overall a great summer for him too. He was #1 pick overall though, and deservedly so. I am sure he will be a star. But the point here is that there are a few guys perhaps that come close to all around great performance of Hayward this summer, and this is very encouraging. Certainly no shame having a worse summer than #1 overall pick, although with poor shooting % and TOs Wall had, I could see why some would rank Hayward's summer even higher at #1 overall.

He fits the Jazz mold. He's efficient, unselfish, a good passer, can rebound and score when need be. He'll compliment the rest of the team really well.

"Wow, amazing crossover, Deron."
"Great dunk, Big Al."
"Nice jumper, Paul"
"Great steal, AK."
"Way to play tough D, Raja."
"Nice tie, Jeremy."

Sorry, BabyPeterzz...I just couldn't resist. I'm not a grammar nazi, but when I see a opening for humor, I take it.
