Jazz May Be A Part of 3-Team Deal w/ Clippers

This screams a trade for the Blazers pick to me. They have only two guards under contract......

Possibly the Hornets?

that's the thing, there are tons of teams in this draft that want a PG, and not that many point guards. so yeah, hornets and blazers both make sense. so do a lot of teams.

I'm wondering, with the jazz being so tight lipped about trades as they usually are, do you think that they could have "leaked" this so that the other dealmakers see it going through and thus agree to the jazz's proposal?

Unless we want Mo for more than one year (questionable) or are getting some other asset in return (so far unreported) then I don't see the point of using the TPE now instead of holding on to it for a different deal at a later date or simply letting it expire and saving the money. No one thinks we're in championship contention next year. Mo Williams isn't going to put us over the top. Is the idea merely to acquire his expiring contract? Who else is out there that's desirable to be acquired in that salary bracket?

tpe expires in december, though, so it's not like you can hold onto it at the deadline. there are three "buyer frenzy" periods in the NBA: the july moratorium, the february deadline, and draft day. by february the TPE is gone, so might as well use it now while there are more buyers willing to give something up of value for it.

I guess my optimal situation would be something like acquiring Mo + 17, then flipping Harris and 17 for a pick in the top 12. I don't really believe this is realistic, but it sure would be awesome.

I love this deal for us. Mo's shooting could really help us off the bench, I wouldn't even mind him supplanting Devin in the starting line-up. He's not the distributor we need at PG, but at this point he's no worse than Harris. Love this as a one year rental. Hopefully Mo agrees to the deal, I believe he'll opt in.

It doesn't even have to be about a desired player. Theoretically, the Jazz could offer to eat 10 million for anybody which could very likely result in a 1st in this draft. After the draft, they can still eat 10 million dollars of dead weight going into the FA session for future picks. So getting Mo Williams ONLY out of the Memo TPE is a waste.

in any trade scenario, the team with the most incentive to leak a proposed deal is the "seller." that way word gets out that team A is about to acquire so-and-so for such-and-such a price, and it motivates other teams to call and try to outbid team A.

if george hill straight up netted #15 for the spurs, devin is good enough to get you somewhere in the late lotto.
1. I'm not so sure Devin is more valuable than George Hill (especially considering age, contract controllability).

2. George Hill netted Kawhi Leonard before he had hit the court. The general consensus seems to be that this draft is better than last draft.

Also, if we didn't have more than $30m in expiring deals, I would be more inclined to pick someone up with another year or two on their deal. We can do that at the deadline if the FO is interesting in players like Rudy Gay.

that's because we are all too familiar with harris' flaws. mo has flaws too, and by 20 games in, a segment of jazzfanz will want him dead.

Except that Williams strengths don't conflict with the strengths of the rest of the roster, unlike Harris.
