What's new

Following potential 2013 draftees

Kyle has a LOT to prove this year, as far as I am concerned .. I'm never sold on the hype of a tall guy being billed as a PG. He's good, very good, but totally void of a position .. which will be exposed in college .. the NBA? .. more so.

If he was 6-7 quick with PG skills it would be very different. IMO SF is the the street position in the NBA with PG a close second.

That is where Poythress is expected to be drafted as well. Poythress seems more athletic, strong and much quicker then Anderson is.

PS, I love that this is already going on. Let the debates begin!

Don't get me wrong, I'm much higher on Poythress...I just don't think he'll be available when we pick.

Kyle Anderson is strictly a point-forward with a limited shot. His success in the NBA is entirely dependent on the team that drafts him and the system they run.

Pothyress is/will be a stud. That is all.

Nerlen Noels will be a large disappointment. He'll be good defensively, but I predict for at least half the season he will be completely lost offensively. Cal typically does well though, so we'll see. I'm not expecting a lot out of him.

Bazz is gonna do what Bazz does...be a stud.

Will this be the year that Mason Plumlee utilized his athleticism and develops an offensive game? My vote says no.

Speaking of Duke, Alex Murphy has reportedly grown since coming in (he's now 6'9 and 220) and will be a very good redshirt freshman in the ACC. I would except him to start.

I'm impressed with McAdoo's athleticism, I'm not impressed with his skills. Very, very raw, which was surprising since he's an NBA players son. I don't trust Roy to develop him, but we'll see.

PG crop is young and risky. Very hard to tell who's going to be good until about halfway through the year IMO...I'm going to hold off on my opinions on them until then.

In response to PKM and Saltair...Harrow is too small for the NBA unless if he's muscled up. Aaron Craft is a good college player, strictly a backup in the NBA. Poor-mans Kirk Hinrich.

I'm a fan of PJ Hairston. NBA size and a smooth stroke, should do well in UNC's system if he gets the playing time.

I know I said I wouldn't talk about PG's, but I lied. I like Ray McCallum a lot, very athletic, really needs to improve his shooting, but I like his game.

I know I wrote a lot, but yeah, I'm bored. Hope y'all enjoy. Back to the bottle for me now.

Hmmm ledo. Forgot about him. Is he a riser? I think so.

I like his game a lot, he's got kind of a funky release on his shot, but it seems to work. I love that he already has a floater when he goes into his lane, at his size it's virtually unstoppable and that's a skill that translates to any level. I do question his work ethic and basketball IQ. It will be interesting to see him play next to Kris Dunn (he's going to Providence, right?).

The 2012 thread was started in November last year and took almost 40 hours to get to this point. It now has 613 pages. That's after it died quite a bit from not having a first round pick.

So whats the over/under for this thread? Can it live up to last years?

Sequels are almost never as good as the original, will this be an exception?

Aye Aye Aye,

Not a sure thing by a mile yet. Anthiont B of UNLV far surer thing. Keep an eye on UNLV this year. They are hoing to blow up. Potentially 3 forst rounders in Moser, Benett and Birch. They may not be listed high, but UNLV will be the talk of the NCAA this season no doubt. ESPN needs a new story. sorry PKM
I root for UNLV boyz, for obvious reasons

re: Phil Pressey; I think he is a leader on the floor.
he may not be flashy etc but he has "it" to lead the team there.

B.J. Young has my attention. Although I'd much rather have a pure point, which this draft seems to lack completely.

Yes to the first part, obviously. I just think he's too slow for any position 1 - 3.

Very good post! I agree with about every word (though I think you slightly undervalue what Mason will do this year, but not what he will do in the NBA).
Glad to have this 'new' poster on the forum. ;)

I also think that when the 2012 thread started, there weren't many posters here that knew anything about college players. I think that number went up drastically. I predict there will be more doing their own research, more watching some college games, and therefore more posting/debating than last year. O/U at 800.

B.J. Young has my attention. Although I'd much rather have a pure point, which this draft seems to lack completely.

B.J. is a really good player .. I think he needs to get his PG on for him to be effective in the league and I have my doubts .. it will come down to coaching.

Yes, this draft will be the weakest EVER (end hyperbole) for PG's .. and there will only be 2 or 3 the following year .. yikes!

Yes to the first part, obviously. I just think he's too slow for any position 1 - 3.

My point exactly. He might have been great in HS, less impactful in College and from the looks of it he would be lucky to be a rotation player in the NBA. That is unless he gets faster or stronger or develops a threatening outside shot.

I haven't watched him much but that is my quick understanding.

He'll do okay at UCLA because he has 'Bazz to help hide his deficiencies somewhat. If I were him, I'd roll the dice on being seen as a true PG (that's weak defensively) rather than a SF (that can't shoot and is weak defensively). He's too slow and too poor of shot ... I predict a late lottery though, because of his size and upside .. ugh.
