Portland Signs RFA Hibbert

You'd likely need a third team.
But the other person besides Granger who would fit in a trade would be West. Pacers might be willing to deal him since Hansbrough looks like he's ready for more minutes and they drafted another PF in Plumlee. We don't want West, but Indiana could give us next year's 1st, then additional assets come from whichever team is getting West.

Why would Indiana beat the offer when they could just let Hibbert sign the offer sheet and then match it?
They could structure it a bit differently. Maybe more $ this year and less of a hit as the punitive tax takes effect. Or maybe Hibbert would take a bit less per year if Inidiana adds an extra year to the deal. There has to be reason Hibbert and/or his agent says he's leaning towards Portland. Otherwise he just would have signed the offer sheet.

They should be able to absorb him. So, give us a couple of picks. A first + a second.

Why trade Jefferson for less than what the Jazz got him? Indiana would definitely project to be a playoff team, so the Jazz get a pick likely around 20 and a second rounder? I know you absolutely hate the guy and think he cost the Jazz 50 games last year, but that's giving him away. Gotta get something back that's useful.

I'm not exactly sure how it all works out, but a giant TPE and a couple of picks sounds useful as ****.

When you're getting clowned by Beanclown of all people, it's time to close up shop.

that's a difference of opinion only.
And, why did you leave out the TPE in this amazing wit?

Because unless the Jazz use it at the trade deadline, it'll be gone since the Jazz will have cap space and be unable to use it next off season.

I'd rather have Jefferson for one year than the deal you proposed. That's how bad I think it is. Weak assets and a TPE that likely won't be used (because Jazz aren't taking multiple year contracts) is not a good trade.

I'll take that trade over nothing (i.e. letting him walk at the end of the year).
I'll take that trade over letting him blackhole our offense and stunt the growth of Favors and Kanter.
With Howard and Gasol deals looming, a giant TPE would be ****ing amazing. We could probably rookie-scale contracts + more picks.

Because Jefferson ain't worth much. We took a flyer on him and had him for the life of his contract. That was the value. Now he's just an expiring. A team that signs him is taking the risk he won't re-sign with them. And his market value is limited. Every GM can see the flaws he has.

But I didn't say JUST a 1st-round pick from Indiana. They're also including West. So the third team would get West and give up a player or picks to us in return.

NAOS, Hansbrough played 22 mins and had some pretty good numbers. And they just drafted Plumlee, who they really like. So I think West is definitely expendable. It's either trade him or just let his contract expire at the end of the season. In the end, I think they'll keep Hibbert. But I really hate Portland for driving up salaries.

I saw into Hansbrough's soul during these playoffs. He's more seriously limited than I had realized.

It's an opinion.

You know that if the Jazz don't trade him, he'll just bogart a season of real opportunities for Favors and Kanter, piss Millsap off, and/or ruin Jefferson's market-value (further) and they'll just end up 'losing' him for 'nothing', right?

And what in the hell has Jefferson done these last two years for his value to be higher? Besides effectively run the bedrock of basketball out of town by being a ****ty basketball player? Two years ago the Jazz got him for squat because that's the BEST offer Minnesota got for the guy. Everyone understands that, right?

I know Batum has had some good games where he hits the 3, but tbh, I actually think AK might be as good as Batum all things considered. Well, at least a semi-motivated AK. Minnesota is also going after Batum. The drama builds.

Two futures and a rookie contract was what the Jazz traded for Jefferson. One of those Minnesota used to get a useful bench guy in Budinger. The other is still a draft pick credit Minnesota has (non-lotto Houston pick). I know you think his 20 points will easily be filled by Derrick Favors and everyone else, but unless they get actual value for him, and not a dime to the dollar, than keep him.

I'll all for trading him. I would prefer to trade him. But I'm not giving him away.
