Portland Signs RFA Hibbert

Two years ago the Jazz got him for squat because that's the BEST offer Minnesota got for the guy. Everyone understands that, right?
Exactly, and that was only after Dallas pulled out of negotiations at the last minute and shifted their focus from acquiring Big Al to Tyson Chandler. Minnesota was asking for Erick Dampier's voidable contract as well as 2 future first-round draft picks but Dallas also wanted Minnesota to take a couple dead-weight contracts off their hands. Ultimately Dallas pulled out but it's not like Utah offered a drastically different deal either.

If KOC could somehow get an expiring chump player as well as a protected future 1st out of Big Al I would be overjoyed.

Because Jefferson ain't worth much. We took a flyer on him and had him for the life of his contract. That was the value. Now he's just an expiring. A team that signs him is taking the risk he won't re-sign with them. And his market value is limited. Every GM can see the flaws he has.

But I didn't say JUST a 1st-round pick from Indiana. They're also including West. So the third team would get West and give up a player or picks to us in return.

NAOS, Hansbrough played 22 mins and had some pretty good numbers. And they just drafted Plumlee, who they really like. So I think West is definitely expendable. It's either trade him or just let his contract expire at the end of the season. In the end, I think they'll keep Hibbert. But I really hate Portland for driving up salaries.

You need to look at your numbers on Hansbrough again. If you want to just look at the fact that he put up 9 and 4 in 22 minutes, then yeah, those are decent numbers. Of course, once you realize that he did that by shooting 40% from the field (36% in the playoffs) then I think you begin to realize that he's a chucker. I mean, Iverson put up better numbers than that and he's a foot shorter than Hansbrough. If Indiana thinks that Hansbrough is ready to start, or even play more, then I think I realize why Larry Bird left.

I see UNC hate.

Dont forget they got meyers leonard in the draft also. Will be the best center out of this draft within 3 years. Portland had 4 GREAT PICKS THIS YEAR. THats a team on the rise. Unlike the jazz front office they are not satisfied with just making playoffs. THey wanna make deep runs.

wow, I've never seen 3 red rectangles before. Impressive. The darkness is great in this one.

I think it was on ESPN where I read he's actually had TWO max offers, but was "leaning" toward signing the Blazers offer. Once he signs an offer, THEN the clock starts ticking on his original team to match...

4 years and 58 million for Hibbert???

BAWAHHAHAHAHAAA... good luck with that ****

Its too much for him for sure but with it only being four years now, it isnt that bad really. After 2 years of trying him out, you got a very manageable 2 years left. Plus you dont have to pay Lillard for a while. You have to fill the cap somehow. Better to do it with your starters. It might be worth a try. It's not like its a 6 yr 120 mil. Just front load it too.

****, and Asik went to Houston, too. I guess the McHale-Jefferson dream is dying hard. Let's hope Chicago matches.

A defensive big that knows how to play the game. That could be a good contract.

A teams fourth big gets 8 million per? Taj Gibson must be worth 12 million, then.

Might be a good contract, but the market for bigs is way overinflated. Hopefully in two years it drops some so Favors doesn't get the max.

yeah, it's a good thing we had that lock-out. It really cleared up a lot of problems. And I'm glad to see hard liners like Paul Allen who couldn't pay their rent 10 months ago can now offer a max deals to a middling talents like Hibbert.

Owners get more of the revenue, so the owners will likely see some of the money they give out to the players back.

Restricted Free Agency is the biggest thing. Have to overpay to pry them from the other team. Agents hope a team jumps the gun and overpays a guy, then try to sell his client off of that.

It would be nice if there was a way to rein in RFA, but I doubt it happens.
