Larger Avatars?

No one has dialup anymore, so what's with the tiny 80x80 limits? 100x125 would be perfect for the forum, with a size limit of 10-15 kb on the files. Here are a few size recommendations:

Pleeeeease?

Also, I'd be willing to create some avatars for an 'Avatar Gallery', which would allow members to select an avatar from the site.

I support this idea, but probably not to the point of becoming a premium member to help move it along if that were needed.

Funny you mention that. I plan on becoming a lifetime premium member in the next 2-3 months. I'm saving up for other things at the moment or I'd already be forking up the cash. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with server space, though. Nothing. Why? Feast your eyes on this: The maximum size of your custom image is 80 by 80 pixels or 43.9 KB. There's your problem, guys, you're allowing the avatars to be much too large in filesize. There are ways to compress your pictures without losing much quality at all, and there's no reason why the limit should be above 20 KB. That knocks the "oh, we don't have the server space" argument out the window. I've ran a few forums in the past and doing this had little to no effect on the server. It's all about limiting the filesize, not the size of the avatars.

I'm totally for this, provided it's not a big pain in the *** or extra expense for Jason.

sad to say, this is about as big as this baby is going to get

I support this move.

Jason--I also figured out where this particular setting is. Looks like you can make larger avatars available only for premium members, if you like. Or you can make them available for everyone.

I totally shouldn't have opened my big mouth earlier.

I have a proposal. If possible, could we just extend the maximum filesize for premium members, rather than differentiating the size? Non-premiums would be limited to 15-20kb avatars, whereas premium could have a larger limit (say 50kb).

It's possible. Looks like you can set horizontal pixels, vertical pixels, and file size independently, for premium as well as for regular.
