Kobe Bryant vs. Alec Burks, Rookie Season Stats Comparison

lol

comparing one of the all-time greats to Alec Burks.

What next, someone using stats from Favors or Kanter to compare them to Malone?

Burks has a VERY long way to go.

Having said that, Burks had a nice rookie year. I hope we see a lot more PT for him... and I hope he works his butt off to become the best player he can be. Whether or not that translates into a Raja Bell like career or Kobe, it remains to be seen.

Okay, I'll simplify. You set the bar higher than the OP. In other words, Burkes didn't make the cut for the comparison using your criteria, so how does that refute my point that I bet you could pull off a similar comparison to Kobe with a lot of players other than Burkes?

Are you even reading nerd's posts?

1) OP showed that burks' production compared favorably to kobe's rookie production.
2) you said that would be true of many rookies.
3) i showed that it's not true of very many rookies at all: 3-4 per season most years
4) you're still arguing with me

what am i missing?

Here are the rookies who have scored more than 0.4 points per minute in the last 5 years with Kobe added in and both Kobe and Alec highlighted:

I like Burks, but I still think there are a lot of players that would look good when compared to Kobe in a similar fashion, and that is the only point I was trying to make.

donuts, your list shows exactly what i mean. if you take out the ones who wouldn't qualify to be ranked because of sample size (elliott williams, ian mahinmi, sundiata gaines, patrick mills, othyus jeffers, dj white, thomas gardner, alando tucker, and probably many, many more) then what your list shows is exactly what i've been saying: that both rookie kobe and rookie alec were above-average per-minute scorers for rookies.

you made it sound like qualified rookies who match kobe's rookie scoring rate were a dime a dozen, and they're not, as evidenced by your own post.

The spin is getting deep in this one...

He gave you 35 names above Alec in the last five years and a butt load more within 10%. How many new players actually make the NBA each year? Maybe 35??? So this list of 60+ names is 1/3 of all new players. Keep up the hardass/****ty post routine.

This debate is stupid because of their 3 pt shooting. Alex will become very, very easy to defend if the doesn't get his 3 pt shooting up. Kobe is very, very hard to defend because he can hit that three point shot.

Move on.

"Burks" and "Bryant" both start with the letter B. I'm pretty sure they're career stats will be pretty similar based on this hidden stat. We should only draft players who's last names start with the letter B. Then we can always compair them to Kobe. !!!!!!!!!!!!! I solved all of our problems.

Nice comparison. Burks will be one of the best in the league in his position. However, Kobe's coach is always blamed for not foreseing his abilities from the rookie season and not giving him the minutes. I don't think Alec is treated the same way. He'll be a great player though. Best 12th pick a team can get from the lockout draft.

I see the time distribution for Hayward/Burks/Williams/Foye being a major problem. Let's say Burks sees no time at point guard...

Hayward (30), Williams (26), Burks (24), Foye (16)...what's more likely is that Burks and Foye see about 20 each...sound about right?
