Are You Kiding Me?

I don't have much to say about the OP since the country I live in is as different as you can't even imagine from the countries like pakistan, iran, syria etc. Those countries are being ruled by either Sharia or heavy stupid traditions(not Islam) of ancient states of islamic lands of today.

Türkiye on the other hand, well you can't even wear any kind of veil in schools or certain public contexts, you can't open your speech with religious statements in the parliamentary contrary to the most christian countries. Fridays aren't legal holidays contrary to the other muslim countries. There is this hard secular structure that rules the country for almost the last century.

Anyway, I may write on this thread more tomorrow, it's too late now here, I've gotta hit the bed asap.

I've worked in several Muslim countries, and Pakistan is the only one where I have felt vulnerable and overly conspicuous. It is also the only one where I will not walk around the streets openly or go out openly at night. Don't get me wrong, the people I actually met there were, without exception, friendly and courteous to me, but the country has an entirely different vibe than, say, Palestine, Egypt, Dubai, Bangladesh, etc.

Did you work in Saudi Arabia or Iran? Because I've always envisioned Pakistan being a tamer version of those two...

No, nor in Afghanistan or Iraq, but I have worked in Dubai, Egypt, Pakistan, Palestine, Tunisia, Morocco, Bangladesh, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Albania, and Bosnia & Herzegovina. I've turned down work in Afghanistan and Iraq, for obvious reasons, and I have no desire to work in Saudi Arabia. (I have a colleague who was wounded by RPG shrapnel during a Taliban attack at his work compound in Afghanistan. I was hesitant before that, but now have no desire to go there.) Saudi Arabia strikes me as about the worst in terms of hard core militant Islam. One difference, though, is that there are lots of Westerners in SA so they're less conspicuous, but in Pakistan, Westerners stick out like a huge sore thumb.

"The first shot hit the side of her body," Ismail said. "I left her there and went next door and killed my wife's mother and sister. I made sure they were all dead. Then I locked the door and left the house."

Without any apparent regret, Ismail said he would do it again.

"I am proud of what I did. That's why I turned myself over to the police."

My wife never made me happy," said the 20-year-old who played drums in a traditional Pakistani wedding band before his arrest. "She was like a prostitute. She never took care of me."

And yet people like that find ways into USA, Canada or other modern countries and keep practicing their middle age rituals and beliefs. Disgusting, retarded pig - victims family's should ask for eye for an eye law and shoot him as well, not to accept any blood money.
here is another story to keep going...
