NFL Thread 12-13

I've only watched the 4x Phins preseason games and while there have been some bad calls it hasn't been that much of a difference IMO, but then it's just the Phins and the refs know that the game doesn't matter and the out come is already decided so a lot less pressure.

As for the rest of the games, I think all the media pressure and more so lately thanks to the players unions might have helped. It has them even more self conscious and then they sound really bad when explaining the penalty, then the crowd smells blood starts booing and it then gets even worse and so on and so forth.

So that's why I think in some cases they are appearing worse than they had previously.

RB is super sketchy, but I think WR is insanely deep.

I think the best strategy is to get a stud QB and TE, then start gambling on RB's and WR's and preferrably wait on WR longer than RB. The top 30 WR are all good.

So much for my strategy.

Had my draft last night, 12 team league $50 buy in 3rd pick.

Got Rodgers with my 3rd pick (awesome) TE started flying off the board like crazy, top 4 or so guys were gone before my 2nd pick. Ended up waiting too long and ended up with freaking Dustin Keller in the 13th round. Need to trade for a TE.

Did really good for a 12 team league though.

QB Rodgers
RB McFadden
RB Fred Jackson
WR Roddy White
WR Victor Cruz
TE Keller (throw up)

Doug Martin, Steve Johnson, Torrey Smith among others off the bench.

I've read mock drafts that have both Rodgers and McFadden in the TOP 5 - I wouldn't worry about your TE so much.

If you're looking for a sleeper you might want to look at NY Giants TE Martellus Bennet. He was stuck behind Witten in Dallas for a few years and the Giants offense always runs red zone pass plays to the TE - I wouldn't be surprised if he finished with 7 or 8 TD's this year.

Lot of sleeper TEs. Look for inexperienced QBs and those guys will target TE a lot. Don't bother trading. Wes pointed out Cook earlier, there are others as well.

I got in a league with a really weird lineup, QB, RB, RB, WR/TE, WR/TE, WR/TE, DP, DP, DP, D/ST, K.

Never drafted a TE, rated RBs on expected touches moreso than fantasy ranking, and went after DP a little earlier than the other owners. Those guys also thought I was dumb for getting my backup QB earlier than normal.

Here's the result. Browns board in a landslide believes I suck.

QB Stafford, DET
RB T. Richardson, CLE
RB D. Martin, TB
WR/TE J. Jones, ATL
WR/TE D. Thomas, DEN
WR/TE R. Wayne, IND
DP P.Willis, SF
DP P. Posluszny, JAC
DP M. Williams, BUF
D/ST Steelers
K P. Dawson, CLE

Bench I got Peyton Manning, Donald Brown, DHB, Titus Young, Jared Cook, and Earl Thomas. I was 10th drafting and took Richardson there, Stafford a couple picks later. It was really tough because the guy set picks at 30 seconds and the 2 dudes between my picks didn't show. Cook, Thomas and Dawson replace some poor choices. I probably will scour for another RB.

Gonna do another team on wednesday 30 bucks for charity and this league, I'm told only counts stats that come off of scoring plays. Still haven't seen the league rules but these guys still do it on paper. Not sure how I want to plan for that but obviously QB will be a big deal.

Where we're you at my draft?! Was deciding between Bennett and Keller. Couldn't remember if it was his first year with NY or not. Didn't want him if he had already sucked there for a year.

As you can tell by my somewhat stacked team, the other people in my league aren't the most experienced. There is a few girls (girl won it last year though so who knows) and people who haven't played much. People were taking 3 TE's before I even got one so TE is super thin in that league.

This is Bennett's first year in NY. He's essentially replacing Greg Ballard - who caught more passes last year than in his entire college career.

Manning loves to check down to his TE - mostly because NY doesn't have the best receiving running backs (although first round pick David Wilson is supposed to be a decent at catching the ball out of the back field) And as I said TE's get plenty of looks in NY's red zone offense..

Bennett's a huge target and a way better athelete than both Boss and Ballard who both came before him and both had successful years in NY. If he stays healthy I have no doubt he'll put up numbers.

Dang. No idea why I thought this was his 2nd year with NY. I know he has all the physical tools to be a stud, he's just kind of dumb, right? The girl who took him has 3 TE so she might drop him. Rather have him than Keller. No upside with Keller.

Yeah, Bennett's known to be bit of a loose cannon. And he's playing for Coughlin who will bench your *** in a heartbeat if you don't do what you're told. So there is that.

Keller isn't horrible - he's just not going to put up big numbers. Classic low risk, low reward. Although he is in a contract year; so I would keep him for now.

Had my draft today...it's a little more yards oriented than most...one point every 5 yards rushing/receiving...one point every 10 passing...td's are 5,7,9,11 for rushing/receiving depending on distance...4,5,6,7 for passing depending on distance...

Newton, Freeman
Chris Johnson, Greene, Gerhart, Tate, Ringer
Nelson, D. Thomas, Blackmon, S. Moss, R. Moss, J. Gordon
Gates
Henery
Niners D, Chargers D

Love the Newton, CJ, Gates threesome...so much potential to explode in any week...have Nelson and Thomas getting balls from Rodgers and Manning...Gerhart is being vastly underrated imo...Greene can't be any worse than last year...best defense possibly...and a lot of shakiness yet huge upside at wr...
