Embassy attacked in Libya

Wow... that changes everything! It doesn't matter which embassy made the statement, the fact that they were attacked over a lame movie that insulted them and the embassy tries to pacify them by saying that it is somebody else's fault is pathetic.

Yeah ok. How about you go work in an embassy in the middle east and tell them how to do their jobs. The ****ing arrogance of people like you telling trained diplomats how to handle a dangerous situation is just ridiculous.
Edit- Oh and it should be noted that the situation at the embassy that issued that statement did end up getting resolved with out any Americans getting hurt, and that they also released statements condemning the attacks which for some reason are being ignored by some of the retardedly partisan among us.

What the hell are we doing with embassies open and wasting money in the first place?

How much money could be saved if we shut down at least half of our embassies in the world?

It's obvious that most of the ME doesn't like us there. So lets accommodate them.... Pull the F out.

If we ever need to talk to folks there, we can do it via Internet, phones, meetings, etc.

It amazes me how we don't have enough money for health care or students but we have unlimited funds to run embassies in countries that don't want us there.

Sucks for those who died. Too bad. I heard that the ambassador was a good guy.

Of course, Mitt Romney has taken advantage of this tragedy to blast the President.... Unbelievable...

The GOP continues to show it's moderate and classy side.

All while ignoring the supposed video that pissed those people off in the first place.

While there is a whole ****load of stuff the US spends money on unnecessarily I don't think I'd categorize Embassies as one of them. It would be difficult to have any sort of foreign relations with other countries without them.

I also wanted to post a few pictures of some folks in Benghazi to remind people that not every person, or I would suggest not even most of the people there are cut from the same mold as those who attacked the consulate.

How so?

If folks from Egypt, Libya, or anywhere want to come talk to us, it's not like DC is that hard to find on a map.

Get rid of at least half the embassies around the world IMO.

Especially in places like the ME where they don't want us there in the first place.

If Egypt cannot stand on its own two feet then maybe it doesn't deserve to be a country.

It's hilarious how all these punkass countries in the ME feel entitled to American money. And then give us the guilt trip (or threaten us) if we don't pay out. I don't see Canada or Mexico paying us to "support" us. Why should we then pay to support Egypt? Why should they get a single cent of "foreign aid?" Raise taxes, build up your own infrastructure, educate your populace sink or swim on your own. Gotta do something other than sit on your *** praising allah 6 times a day while sucking billions of US dollars annually (and then talking **** about us).

perhaps Allah would help them out more if they actually worked, took on western culture (instead of bashing it), and mutilated women's private parts?

Shut down the embassies, retract our armies, let the ME sink or swim on its own. If oil prices shoot through the roof all the better. Get us off that crap and/or force us to keep more of it here instead of selling it off.

"Commerce with all nations, alliance with none"

Hilarious how the founding fathers are adored by both political parties yet this lil tid bit of advice is especially ignored...

We'll argue and argue about "rights" and the definition of "welfare" yet blatantly ignore a pretty damn bold, wise, and clear statement from the author of our Declaration of Independence.

Rep'd.

It is important for us to avoid broad generalizations. I pray that these actions do not escalate into a broader conflict while also praying for justice. Hopefully, the Libyan government helps capture the individuals involved in the attack.

But sources tracking militant Islamist groups in eastern Libya say a pro-al Qaeda group responsible for a previous armed assault on the Benghazi consulate is the chief suspect. U.S. officials also said they believe the attack was not prompted by the film, but was planned beforehand.

A London think tank with strong ties to Libya speculated Wednesday that Stevens was the victim of a targeted al Qaeda revenge attack.

The assault "came to avenge the death of Abu Yaya al-Libi, al Qaeda's second in command killed a few months ago," the think tank Quilliam said Wednesday.

“Jihadists will want the world to believe that the attack is just a part of the protests against an amateur film produced in the U.S., which includes crude insults regarding the Prophet Mohammed. They will want the world to think that their actions represent a popular Libyan and wider Muslim reaction; thus, reversing the perception of jihadists being outcasts from their own societies,”

Thanks for the posts, Zombie and Whisky. Please let's not generalize and make a blanket statement over a faith that more than a billion people hold. The ME is admittedly a mess, and I pray that things resolve for the better, and return back to times where the ME regimes were tolerant, not persecuting

When was that?

like 15000 years ago, right?

LOL. Exactly.

And probably even 15,000 years ago there was extreme violence, intolerance, and hatred.

The ME is the most intolerant, hateful, violent, fought over region in the history of this planet.

No other region has seen such a long and continuous scene of bloodshed.

"peace" has never broken out over there.

You guys may be being facetious but the middle east wasn't near the mess it is today as little as a hundred years ago. And throughout much of the middle ages the middle east was a place I would rather have found myself in than much of Europe.

You're joking, right?

Europe has seen its share of bloodshed. As has Asia and the "New World." But 100 years ago the Ottoman Empire was falling apart and hundreds of thousands of people were killed. Just ask Armenia.

During the Ottoman Empire's reign, I don't think there was a century that passed that there wasn't a war going on between the Ottomans, Europeans, or Russians. Not to mention the "tiny" revolts that were constantly going on between the differing ethnic groups which resulted in thousands being slaughtered.

Before that, the ME was constantly being conquered, reconquered, and conquered again, just ask Genghis Khan, Constantine, Augustus, Julius, Alexander, the list goes on and on and on. Hell, ask Mohammad how he got so many to "convert."

Ask Titus what it was like to crush the Jews, destroy their temple, and slaughter possibly a million Jews in the street of their city. The very history of the Jews is filled with war and bloodshed with an occasional mention of their God.

Ask Cleopatra how many famous men she offered herself to in order to Pacify Egypt... Julius... Mark... Until Augustus laughed her off... When that happened, Egypt was pillaged of her wealth.

True, the Ottoman Empire had some nice things. It sorta held together a large region of differing ethnicity which have seemingly, ALWAYS been at war with one another.

True, Iran at one point (fairly recently) wasn't so radical.

But the ME has always been one violent, scary, and dangerous place.

The middle east had Aristotle's influence (who was lost in Europe for quite some time) and a better numerical system then the Romans. They did, after all, create algebra. I think your claim has some merit to it.

However, the German in me refuses to agree with your statement :)

This has to be a troll-post. Never have I seem such collective misinforming over a single topic in my entire life.

Here's a tip for you, ****mittens. How about you pull your eyes off of this forum, and you actually research the stuff you think you know so much about, before ranting on about something that is largely incorrect, making
You look like an absolute idiot in the process.

Many-a-time I have posted about the history of the Arabian Peninsula, how ou can still find religious minorities of faith other than Islam in many Arab countries, a reputation that Spain wish she had.

Instead of re-explaining everything, I'll just simply tell you you're wrong, and you should brush yourself up on the readings yourself. I'm off to bed.

As for you Scat, I simply sincerely hope that you were being facetious as well. I'd hate to be lumped in a category with The Thriller.

I have no doubt you can and will find them too. So nice job. Here's a cookie. I'm sure you could find a Muslim in the Vatican City. So yay to whatever point you were trying to make.

Since you've "studied" that region, please explain to me about the origins of Islam. How did Mohammad gain so many converts so quickly? What happened after he died? Shiites and Sunnis get along just fine, right?

The fact that escapes you is that the ME has been the most fought over, violent, intolerant, and dangerous region on this planet.

The sooner we pull out of that craphole and stop wasting American (Chinese money that we'll need to pay back) to fund their foreign aid handouts, militaries, and nation building, the better.

Not one more damn American life should be wasted in that region. Lets focus on building up America. Let Egypt, Libya, and the rest of those punkass countries either sink or swim. Eventually Mommy America has to let go and let baby countries stand on their own 2 feet.

The best thing to happen to Libya, Egypt, Iraq, Afghanistan, SA, Israel, etc is for us to pull out, cut the foreign aid, and let them figure things out. Then they can't always pull the wildcard "WELL THE USA INFLUENCED... WELL THE USA DID THIS... WELL WELL WELL..." that they constantly use. It would allow the free market to take over and they'll have to figure out what forms of education, industry, etc to use in order to be successful.

Stop burning US flags and start figuring out how to build your own damn countries. Allah is great and will bless you for it.
