New Space Station

I see space as one of the few things that has even a small chance of uniting humanity. It is so full of hope and wonder.
if there is (hostile) intelligent extra terrestrial live it is gonna unite earth.
if not, there is no change.

if its green chicks. there will be even more fighting.

Even if it was friendly life I think it would have a good chance of uniting Earth. Either way I think there would be a war but after that things would come together.

Mars has HOT green chicks. Terraforming accomplishable within 2 years.

2 years, huh? Have you read how long that **** will actually take?

Agreed.

Can you imagine how fast we'd be on Mars if the rover sent back intel that showed oceans of oil under the crust?

solving world hunger now >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> going to mars.
Except that world hunger is around not because of any lack of technology or a shortage of food production, but because of political regimes who deny their citizens food.

Should we really be spending this money here right now? What happened to being fiscally responsible? Romney would rather throw millions at this, while cutting Pell Grants?

On the one hand I oppose govenrment funding of space exploration. On the other I think we need to learn what we can as soon as we can. There will always be other things the money could be spent on. 1000 years from now if we aren't fairly proficient at space travel and getting around in our own solar system I think we're in big trouble. The need will arise and we won't be competent enough to survive as a species.

Imagine all the little germs that live on the gooey surface of a little girl's lolly pop the she dropped on the sidewalk. Imagine one germ becomes dominant, intelligent and self-aware. If that germ community has a chance to learn how to leave that lolly pop and inhabit new worlds across the vast distances of the sidewalk should they pass because they're super busy worrying about how to keep their population down, how to prevent conflict between germ communities with different ideologies, and how not to spoil the lolly pop with their waste products? I'd say getting off the lolly pop should be their #1 prioroty.

All just a conspiracy to keep the peasants on earth during the apocalypse .. While Obama and his NASA cronies head off to populate the new world. Just ask Silencer.

I am for more responsible spending. I want them to reduce the budget and deficit. However I fully recognize that there are areas that have to have money spent on them.

Here are some ways to save money:

Cut erroneaous military projects such as the "pain beam"
Stop life time pensions for members of Congress
Stop life time health insurance for members of congress
Completely remove ourselves form Afghanistan. They brought our invasion upon themselves. We should not spend a dime rebuilding them
Review all foreign aide and stop large amounts of it
Stop all "pork barrel" additions to bills. Make them make a bill for each of those items. See how many idiotic ones pass then
Leave Iraq completely
11 aircraft carriers? 11?! Surely we don't need more than 7-8
Remove the LSDP from Social Security
900 military bases? Our military is in 148 countries? Surely 150 bases is good enough and I bet we could get it down to 75 countries.
$4.5 billion to increase energy efficiency in federal buildings (GSA) (I could do it for 100 million easy)
$5 billion for weatherizing modest-income homes (they can buy it themselves)
$500 million for training of green-collar workers (if the economy demands those workers than companies will train them)
$300 million to acquire electric vehicles for the federal vehicle fleet (why not just but electric vehicles as you replace older ones? no extra money is needed)
$8 billion for intercity passenger rail projects and rail congestion grants, with priority for high-speed rail
$1.3 billion for Amtrak
$14.2 billion to give one-time $250 payments to Social Security recipients, people on Supplemental Security Income, and veterans receiving disability and pensions.

Not all spending cuts are good or right but we both know damn well that they could cut stupid crap and save billions.

Please don't trun this into a Romney or republican problem. This goes across the board and is to be laid at the feet of repubs and dems equally. This is not just Romneys or just Obamas fault. It is D.C.s.

Add up all the money spent for indoor plumbing and I'd bet it's more than what has been spent on space exploration.

Add up all the money that is spent to eat out instead of making simple home-cooked meals and I bet it adds up to more then everything that has been spent on space exploration.

And on, and on and on.

Space exploration is important. I see it as a possible answer to world hunger, environmental issues, overpopulation, religious and cultural conflicts.....and the long term (outlasting our own sun) survival of humanity. I think it's the most important thing humans could be doing right now.

I'm sorry, I usually love you but this idea absolutely boggles my mind. How the hell are we going to get one million people to Mars let alone 8 billion? How are we going to build enough **** there to house said people, employ said people, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera? That **** would only cost 100 times the national deficit of all countries in this world combined. And oh yeah, are we just going to stay indoors for the rest of our lives since ya know, we just can't walk around freely on Mars?

If we go there, it solves nothing. Dumb people will still be procreating in droves, there still will be lazy *** people who suck on the societal teet, and we'll be ****ing robots living in some indoor bubble, playing our game consoles, watching tv, shopping at The Gap.

This planet isn't fine but going to Mars isn't the answer. Not even close.

Romanticized nonsense. Sorry but the dumbass people ****ing up this world aren't full of hope and wonder and they're certainly not concerned about uniting humanity. If we go there, they'll **** that **** up too.

I disagree. I doubt it will happen but I think there is a small, tiny chance. People are full of hope and wonder. Yoou are simply more cynical than I am.

In a few hundred million years, the sun will boil every drop of water off this planet. If the human race is going to survive that, we need to be elsewhere.

You mean we are not to that point already?

No, I simply live in the real world and recognize why this world is ****ed up. Let me tell you something. Poor people in the inner city don't give a **** about you or you going to Mars. If you let them tag a long, which I'm sure you would, they'd continue to spite you, suck off the teet, and find ways to **** you over. Oh yeah, Republicans might do this too.

I've united with quite a bit of humanity in my day. Wes is right, we **** all that **** up.

Of course we did. SO does that mean we just accept that we are screw ups or do we keep reaching and trying?
