if there is (hostile) intelligent extra terrestrial live it is gonna unite earth.I see space as one of the few things that has even a small chance of uniting humanity. It is so full of hope and wonder.

Except that world hunger is around not because of any lack of technology or a shortage of food production, but because of political regimes who deny their citizens food.solving world hunger now >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> going to mars.

Having it at the Lagrange point would be a good spot for deep space exploration. It would greatly facilitate getting to Mars as well.
Should we really be spending this money here right now? What happened to being fiscally responsible? Romney would rather throw millions at this, while cutting Pell Grants?
2 years, huh? Have you read how long that **** will take?

Add up all the money spent for indoor plumbing and I'd bet it's more than what has been spent on space exploration.
Add up all the money that is spent to eat out instead of making simple home-cooked meals and I bet it adds up to more then everything that has been spent on space exploration.
And on, and on and on.
Space exploration is important. I see it as a possible answer to world hunger, environmental issues, overpopulation, religious and cultural conflicts.....and the long term (outlasting our own sun) survival of humanity. I think it's the most important thing humans could be doing right now.

Romanticized nonsense. Sorry but the dumbass people ****ing up this world aren't full of hope and wonder and they're certainly not concerned about uniting humanity. If we go there, they'll **** that **** up too.
I'm sorry, I usually love you but this idea absolutely boggles my mind. How the hell are we going to get one million people to Mars let alone 8 billion? How are we going to build enough **** there to house said people, employ said people, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera? That **** would only cost 100 times the national deficit of all countries in this world combined. And oh yeah, are we just going to stay indoors for the rest of our lives since ya know, we just can't walk around freely on Mars?
If we go there, it solves nothing. Dumb people will still be procreating in droves, there still will be lazy *** people who suck on the societal teet, and we'll be ****ing robots living in some indoor bubble, playing our game consoles, watching tv, shopping at The Gap.
This planet isn't fine but going to Mars isn't the answer. Not even close.
I disagree. I doubt it will happen but I think there is a small, tiny chance. People are full of hope and wonder. Yoou are simply more cynical than I am.
I've united with quite a bit of humanity in my day. Wes is right, we **** all that **** up.
